Hard Drive Movie won't show on TV

I've used DVD Shrink to copy my DVD movies to the hard drive on my laptop. I can watch the movies on the laptop using several different viewers with no problem. However, when I hook up the laptop via S-video out on the laptop to the S-video in on my Denon AVR 3805 receiver to view the movie on my TV, I can only see the movie playing on the laptop via the DVD software on the computer. I cannot see the movie playing on the TV, even though everything else on the laptop screen is visible on the TV.

AFAIK, you can watch DVD file from PC's HDD on TV via certain video cards with TV out connector. S-Video can be used with DVD or VHS drive or player or camcorders.

Members please correct me if I am wrong.

only works if using extend desktop-- in this case, probably using clone

I get some bad memories from making a TV the primary display! Especially after forgeting to switch back and moving the computer.

lol me too . happened only once though, whent testing dvi. after that i moved a pc permanently next to the display

What about the "VRM 7 (Renderless) and VRM 9 (Renderless) " settings?

I remember I had a similar problem and the solution was enabling those settings from "System Default".

the reason why i didn't mention vmr is cause not all players have the option (last time i checked, even cyberlink's decoder (and thus powerdvd) only ran in overlay and vmr7).

also it significantly increases hardware requirements and has different black/white levels so brightness/contrast/saturation adjustments are needed. better quality though

Media Player Classic is what I use and it supports it.

Wouldn't you just recommend a software player like MPC that supports that feature?

Thank you all for the help. I'm new at this, am learning, and know just enough to make me dangerous. I will try to use MPC and see if this corrects my problem. By the way what is VRM 7 and 9?
