    Hi alienfinder

I have one more thing you can try, this is a internal XP command that checks all the original Windows files to see if they are all in pristine condition and havent been messed with, takes a while to run.

START>RUN on the command line type: sfc /scannow

as for your playback problems, keep working with Chewy and Anonymez you cant find anybody better.

sorry I cant help you more

I would be inclined to uninstall any MS media players and go with the classic version, especially with older hardware

I use WMP 10 for music, too many problems with dvds (used not anymore)

anyways that file is not really apart of WMP10 (kinda sorta) also used by some other services (unkown as to what)

It's part of Media Player 10; Under Windows Services it calls itself "Windows User Mode Driver Framework" and is set to load automatically at startup. If you don't want it to, change it from "Automatic" to "Manual" [Hit Start -> Run -> type in (services.msc) -> locate (Windows User Mode Driver Framework) -> Double Click on it -> Change start up type to (Manuel)]

IMO, that file shouldn't cause any problems

I would take Anon's advice and lose ZoneAlarm, I am not familiar with the firewall you mentioned, I am sure somebody else here is.
I use Nortons and Microsoft Firewalls cause they were already on my machine.

          good luck

Uufta, you really dont want to run 2 firewalls on a system, although the Microsoft's Firewall program is too weak, but 2 firewalls can conflict and make things a real PITA
