Trying to fix the DMA settings, burn speed, etc.

    Hello all,

I am very new to the burning world and am glad i found such a great place to look for information!

I have been reading for days trying to figure out why it takes me so long to burn things.
I updated my firmware, and now i followed the instructions here to set my DMA settings right. Here is what I had to begin with:

then after i uninstalled it and rebooted, i get this:

It seems that I made it worse. I can do a system restorm and put it back like it was in the first screenshot,
but there is still that PIO stuff there too.

I am sorry if i am posting to long of a thread, i just wanna try to give you guys all the information i can.

Now i did the nero tool kit thing before i changed anything and at least then DMA was on beside everything except my dvd burner drive. I didnt save the text file for that, but here is the text file for the way it is now: (next post)

      1. It's prefered to have the dvd burner as master
      2. Unusal to see this with SP2
      3. Uninstall or update the Intel Application Accelerator

kind of wonder if it has anything to do with cable select, how was the burner jumpered?

Now if you're adding a dvd burner, we need to change some stuff,
with this setup I would suggest you pull your old optical drive and replace with
the dvd burner as master on the secondary mother board ide. If you keep the
other drive make sure the burner goes on top and is jumpered master and the
        old drive is jumpered slave.

          Thanks for replying Chewy.

I have this burner as a slave to my cdrom drive. The hard drive is seperate. and I am using an external USB Hard Drive. I just went by the install instruction, as I am not very knowledgeable on all this. lol.

I did do some searching "here" which actually they were talking about hard disk, but thought maybe it was the same for a second burner drive.....and found that maybe i had to change something in the setup...bios...whatever its called. When I got in there, I saw where it showed the Secondary SLave, the dvd burner, to bet set at off. I turned it on auto, and then checked...... everything in harware config looks good now...no PIO anywhere. and I am burning at a wonderful speed now.

I just wonder if what I changed will mess anything up?
          what do you think?

heres is what the Nero InfoTool Log looks like now
