Check out http://www.gamecopyworld.com/ tons of info. on backing up CD's and using FIXED .exe's (disable the need for having the CD in the comp to play), and cheats.
For the most part I use:
---> Alcohol 120% http://www.alcohol-soft.com/ to back up and create images
---> Daemon Tools http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/announcements.php current v.4.0.3 make sure you read the info about the 4.0 release as it explains the ad content (search bar, but it can be disabled just watch for the option on install), spyware programs will HIT on it if it isnt disabled, alot of debate about it
DAEMON Tools is a virtual cd/dvd-rom emulator. It is able to emulate nearly all known copy protections on the market today.
---> CD Killers Protection ID v. 5 http://pid.gamecopyworld.com/Startpage.html the ultimate Game Protection Scanner (kinda a mjor PITA to use, but works very well)
The are also other tools out there, and I personally back up games to a DVD
Also you will experience alot of problems too, thats why I recommend baking up the game before you actually install the game onto your system this way you actaully know if the back up will worky
I dont usually use DAEMON TOOLS protection emulators as I have ran into many problems with em (For NEW games) I usually will use a tool like SafeDisc Hider which tricks the SafeDisc protection schemes
