Avi plays from hard drive not from cd drive

Made cds containing data files of avi videos. When I play them from the cd drive at random places in the film the computer hangs and there is a ratatat continuous sound from the speakers. When I copy the cds to my hard drive and play them from that source they play without any problem. Have tried variety of players Quick, Real, Divx, VLC - same results. Device Description SONY DVD RW DRU-510A. System XP Pro sp2. Video board Santa Cruz. All seem to work well save for this problem. Any ideas?

This is probably because they are uncompressed. The CD drive can NOT read the data as fast as it's playing so it skips. Your hard drive is much faster than a CD drive.

do you have DMA enabled? If not, enable it and see if the problem still exists.
