Where do I get a TWAIN driver?

Just reformatted my c drive, and I can't install my scanner because it says I don't have a twain driver installed. Where do I find that?

I searched the canon site, and they've got the software for it, but not the twain driver.

It came with an installation cd, but when I go to install, it says that I don't have a twain driver and I can install the software if I want, but it's not gonna work without a twain driver.

            It's a canoscan N650U

Didn't see my model on the link you gave me. My luck, it's probably something they don't make anymore.

I seem to have a different problem than I thought...It's a usb scanner and when I plug it in, I hear a beep, but I don't get a "found new hardware" window that opens which would allow me to install a driver.

Thanks for the assistance. I FINALLY got it. It didn't give me the 'new hardware' window because it was already listed as hardware, it was just called "usb device". I found the twain driver using the link you gave me earlier as a starting point, then I went to the 'usb device' and chose the advanced 'install driver' option and pointed it to the download from the site.

Now all is well, thanks a lot! I've got a LOT to learn still. This computer is my "test" computer. I've got a new one, and I'm using the old one to try to teach myself about repair, etc, since it won't hurt if I screw it up!

Click on drivers in this page:

The TWAIN driver seems to be included in that .exe file.

Following the expert advice of HP Scanner Support, I deleted my twain driver, then ran my install disc again. Oddly, the scanner still didn't work. I consulted HP Scanner Support and they kindly referred me to MS, saying that I could download a twain driver there — which is possible for something like $35.

I copied a twain driver from another pc and pasted it where it belonged, but the scanner still couldn't find it, even though it was sitting right there!

Can't remember which application now, but either PaintShop Pro or ABBYY FineReader has a dropdown with an instruction "Acquire Twain." I clicked on that and everything worked just fine! Check your applications to see if you can order one of them to "acquire."

The "Acquire" means that the scanner driver is working. Since, upgrading my computer. I have not installed the Canon Toolbox software (the scanning software). I just installed the twain scangear driver and use Acquire in PSP as well.
