Lap Top monitor trouble

i got this lap top (toshiba satelite) from a relative the other day, all was fine and it had no prior problems, but all of a sudden while typing in MS word, the screen went really dark bluish. almost like turning your contrast way down on your tv. i go into control panel and can see the icons but no text at all under them. the desktop ones are ok though. you have to tilt and move the thing to see stuff and if i have to go into something to check a setting, i can't because the text is missing on just about everything. any clues for this mystery>?

Mine died Due To Display

My Plll 600 Just gave up the ghost last week. Had to get another modem for my descktop, Sempron 2800. I have figured out that the actual display is okay but, the connections at the hinge are the culprit. I have yet to talk to my techy friend but hope he can remmedy this problem soon. I live out in the countryside and don't get to town often, re:dialup sucks! Your problem sounds more hardware related, screen failure. Toshiba would have a replacement, is it worth it?

thanx for the response, i didn't think anyone would at this point

i did some research on the net and found similar stories about busted hinges and wires. also possibility of some kina inverter or backlight bulb. thing has always worked fine so i figure it could be one of those. i know this fella who knows about these kind of things. he'll know how to check it.

all i know is i hate laptops already.

Video cards in laptops seem to give probs. Mine has had funny berhaviour almost from day 1 - crazy little lines in little blocks. I turned hardware accel down a notch and it usually behaves.

Also, watch out for heat!

i hear ya, but this happened out of the blue. it isn't normally used long enough to produce that much heat. the screen was perfewct up untill this. damn thing
