since my last clean install of windows,i have been having problems, like slow menus, windows closing slow, actualy most of the things were quite slow,on the other hand, all the processes - like ripping, encoding etc were working as fast,or should i say slow(with my configuration) as they should.i also had problems when burning higher than 2x,that buffers would fall and then rais,so it would take longer than it should to burn a normal dvd5 on 4x....and the weirdest thing was i had half of my ram free and about 15% of cpu usage(i thought it could be spyware, virus or similar, scaned everything . all clean!)today i downloaded and installed the newest drivers(again as new as they can be with my graphic card) and it fixed everything!now, i understand a thing with the menus, and other visual stuff, but i burnt a dvd @ 4x,without any problems, and thats where i need explanation, what do new graphic drivers have to do with nero or imgburn burning process?and i installed a nex directX 9c ,i had 9b before...
need explanation

Regarding burning speed problems, check if DMA is enabled. You can read more here
Regarding visual effects that slow computer, right click on "MyComputer" and select Properties. Then select the "Advanced" tab and press the "performance" button on performance. Disabling some visual effects you should be able to speed up your system. -
Animated cursors etc. will slow down your overall system performance.
They call them "Themes" that you can select.
You can check out the DMA guide I made as well as the one geno posted at cdfreaks.com . - http://www.digital-digest.com/articl...dma_page1.htmlLast edited by jmet; 21 Apr 2006, 08:39 AM.Comment

windows ui customization has made many leaps in the past few years-- the uxtheme hack and wb methods are just as fast and faster than plain old ms themes, respectively. mostly because of hardware acceleration
there is no decrease in performance. no resources are used . though apps that allow different cursors, dock icons and the like do take resources, but very little with current versions.
as for why the drivers fixed the problems, agree with chewyLast edited by anonymez; 21 Apr 2006, 11:30 AM.Comment

no prob jmet
incase you're interested, search for the uxtheme.dll hack-- it'll bypass MS's crappy protection and allow you to choose from hundreds of visual styles
as for the actual visual styles, check http://www.deviantart.com for them, in the skin&themes-->visual styles section.
the best themes imho are "codeopus 3.0" and "xpmc" (aka XPM classic) :^)Last edited by anonymez; 21 Apr 2006, 01:44 PM.Comment

everythings work now best,i know i shouldnt make a problem where is none, but i really wanted to know this...i use normal xp theme
2 anonymez - can you explain a little bit about "uxtheme.dll hack"Comment

sonic emperor, it allows you to change the look of your pc. microsoft has made it so you cannot use any themes unless they're approved by them or "digitally signed". the uxtheme hack allows you to use any theme (called a "visual style") on your pc. maybe i shouldn't use the word hack-- sounds kinda seedy if you're interested in using it, don't worry its completely stable
an easy method of applying the patch: http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=140707
