problem is night's next computer will probably use cas 3 ddr2 800,
of course they don't make that ram yet

believe it or not, matched 512's cas 2 ram pc3200 slowed me down 10% with shrink from my present memory. something to do with balance in the force

I can believe it. Ram can be a funny thing if it isn't matched, sometimes the manufacturer e.g. Kingston, will tell you the best combo for your machine.

durn 40% fsb overclock, those amd64 3000 just run off and leave good memory behind, putting the memory controller into the cpu and using hypertransport bus of 1120 causes a lot of problems, of course I was too cheap to pay another 200$ for an X2 cpu, but then I would have probably
tried to do the same thing with it, and wanted this memory

I just built myself an AMD370064 with an AsusK8VSE board, 2 gigs of PC2700 Ram. I should've gotten better ram but it was what I had. One stick went bad which Kingston did replace but I was surprized to see how slow the machine ran with 1 gig (relatively speaking). I can burn a full DVD in about 9 minutes at 8X with no discernable quality problems, I play them at 80 inches with an LCD projector.

would have sped up video encoding with a lean machine and that cpu

It is hard to state the encoding process speed because I only do the main movie, but if the movie is at 80 to 92% DvdShrink usually takes about 8 minutes. I have an ATIX800 256 Pro Video card for the record.

Chewy, I just posted a Rant which I would really value your opinion on.

our benchmark here was take a rip of star wars 3(2 hours 20min) crop credits
using DA and aec sharp transcode(~70%) to another hard drive
other was turn off da and aec
our times ranged from 20 to 40 minutes option 1
                  down to 6, 7, 9, 12 option 2

my setup is about 10% cpu faster than yours but my 512 megs of ram would probably make me 20-25% faster
I benched my setup with 4 sets of ram

Mine is a guesstimate but I do have other background programs like Norton running which may slow me down, but it is good enough. I now have 3 hard drives, 160G main, and a 70G and 60G for movie backups which does speed up things a bit.

now simce I will buy something from Newegg I also want to add and internal hard drive( 250 or over), which is the best bang for buck and I know you like the IDE card with it, which one should I go for the HD and the card?

                      Thanks

don't put it in the top pci slot(usually shares with onboard video)
                        download driver from web site

course then you will want to move your boot hard drive to the card(have to change bios to boot to scuzzi) after you get the driver loaded
                        and have opticals standalone masters

I just order it, and what web site is this ?, two hard drive to the IDE card, two optical to the mother board ( get rid of the old cable?)

you will need 4 80 conductor cables, is this gonna fit in your case?

old hard drive cable should be good, the card comes with one, old optical one might be good, so only need 1 more?
sometimes you luck out and get one with a new drive, but I doubt it.
