        sonic emperor,

The Firewall setting is located: Start>Control Panel>Windows Firewall(double click) click Off>OK

Automatic Updates is found in your control panel as well. Choose on or off.

Check out this MS link to turn off firewall in Windows XP. http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;q283673

            Here is another- http://www.utmem.edu/helpdesk/sp2/sp2firewall.htm

Try this for Auto Update disable - Start>Control Panel>Administative Tools>double LT click Services>LTclick Automatic Updates(line will highlight)>click on "Stop" in upper left hand corner. This should remove the word "Started" from status column.

To check to make sure it's set, double LT click on Automatic Updates. Automatic Update Properties window will open. Next to "Service Status:" should read "Stopped"

There is a setting that says you will monitor it on your own then the warning should disappear.
