    Laptop info and suggestions

I'm starting my research on laptops and I'm looking for suggestions on good reading for information and reviews on them. I've never had one, but could use any tips in helping me with my search for what to look for on them. Looking for something in the mid to upper price range with good power and storage.

I've had a Dell 9100 lap for the past three years. Best investment I've made. Not cheap. Dell offers so many different models at different prices. Check them out!

Hubby has an IBM Thinkpad that he uses for work. Every 2 years they change and offer the old one to the employee. We love it and will buy it when offered. ThinkPad

That 9400 looks pretty nice. Just got a weekend flyer from Dell and that one was over $500 off. I'll likely buy later in July or early August. Hoping for some even better price drops with all the back to scholl sales that usually come out.

I bought an HP last summer and love it. AMD Athlon 64 3200+, separate graphics, 80gig HDD and a DVD burner. It does all I want it to do. I was told the Athlon would run a little hot in a laptop but I've seen no ill effects. I paid $1100 for it in July and in August it was on sale for $599 but I'm still happy with it.

I'm hoping that the discounts will be goo at the end of summer. Sure a lot of bloody choices.

                Zeor G,

What I noticed about Dell is that you need to check their prices on a daily basis. They offer different deals and incentives everyday. Free printers (Dell's own brand. This means you have to buy their ink as well. If you run out, you can't run out to a local store.)

                Shipping is a big incentive.

Also custom picking the things you want to include in your machine is sometimes cheaper then getting a model pre-packaged. Weird. It's happened 3x with the Dells I've purchased. Definitely take your time.

I bought a Dell desk top 1 1/2 years ago. Had to have it custom because my job required a 3 1/2 floppy driveand the cd drive. Cost me $1100. Didn't know how to install a drive at the time. Now I would buy the basic and tweak it.

With a laptop, wouldn't know how. Would probably get the best model available at the best price.
