By C, you mean the data drive that I am considering making C?
Surprisingly, there is like 26GB free out of 30, after installing Windows.

The main reason I am concerned is programs that keep temp downloaded files IN the install directory, such as eMule, etc...

Is there a problem with installing programs to the data partition?

C is the system partiton, don't ever change that. There's 101 ways to screw up windows, without doing something crazy. Change any data downloads
to away from C, I already went over this. Try to pay a little closer attention.
Set a limit of 20 gigs for installs to C, leave 10 in reserve. Learn to do custom/advanced installs of programs. Before I install musicmatch I already have a music folder on the data drive/partition.

Nevermind, the clean install wouldn't close them, chewy brain fart, duh!
Close them durn ports, set back to default, then only open a random one as per directed by software(and even that's dangerous).

those messages are malicious web pages scanning for open ports/computers using windows messenger service to sucker you into using bad software and get your money.

I just installed, I put McAfee on and scanned, no problems there.

I don't have a firewall... I used to use Windows Firewall, I don't have SP2 now as my installation CD only comes with SP1, so I gotta get MS Update for that.

And I use Windows Messenger... not the one that comes with the computer but rather Windows Live Messenger, aka the new MSN Messenger.

So how do I disable it?

I closed the ports, but that means I can't download files as easily... I can fix that later, but I have never seen that before. The only reason I had to open ports was because I am on a router, normally they are all open via a direct connection (right?)

                            tsk tsk tsk

edit: just saw you had a router, no good if it's not set up correctly. common ports should be closed

Right, but like port 59, that's what everyone uses to share files on filesharing programs. So if I close it, than that means I can't access all those files!

                              What about DMZ?

Very strange... When I first installed and put McAfee on I had no issues with my downloaded audio and video files. I then installed Windows Update so that I could get SP2 (but it didn't yet as it has to "prepare"), and now whenever I open that folder, Explorer crashes just as it did before.

                                Any idea why?
