Not to mention high school soon-to-be-sophomores who can't get it right either

I will try it tomorrow, hopefully it will work.

I will post questions from my mom's computer.

So just to get it straight, I format the drive IN XP, not like put in the XP CD and partition that way?

          Thanks for the encouragement!

I seriously consider myself a noob at this, the only way I know for sure is to put the XP CD in, just make one huge partition and install.

I will try your way since you are the master.

that's how this data mess gets started, next time you can just kill
the system partition and reinstall and leave the data alone

I know, that's why I am trying your way

So, I would make the system partition drive C, and the data one drive F, etc?
(I use these letters because D and E are my optical drives)

LOL, I am just so used to D and E.

My mom's PC has E and F, just seems wrong for some reason... I would rather have hard drives C and F (I know I am weird...admit it :rotfl)

c&d will be the 200 gig, the opticals will grab e and f, then if you wait to hook the 160 up it will be G

OK, tomorrow I will try that suggestion.

Only thing I am worried about is that virus... I don't want it being moved to the new drive, that would be a bad way to use a new drive.

But I put the data on before installing Windows?

that's ok, just don't execute any files you got from P2P

What about my shared files from P2P? It took me ages to get half of those.

music and video are safe, nothing else is till you check it and trojans usually have to be installed to be detected by heuristic means

but make sure windows is updated before you fire up media player and try a shared file
