All I ever download is audio and video :O

Also, what about my temp files from eDonkey/eMule... I have some partial downloads from there that are like 300MB files, I don't want to lose what I have of those, would it work coping the .part files to a disc and then putting them back once reinstalling eD2K/eMule?

And another thing, I read how My Documents can be moved to a non-system drive, but what about the Desktop? I frequently save stuff to the desktop and then move it somewhere else later, because it's easiest that way, and my desktop takes up tons of space, (that's also where my AutoGK files are stored, the ones I encode)... can I have the Desktop on the other partition too?

Ah so make my "AutoGK" folder a shortcut instead?

But say I make a 30GB partition, once that fills with crap what happens (I mean the desktop)

And also, what other data files go on the system partition other than Windows, like Desktop, what others?

@drf - just to jump in for a sec - I try to save all data to another partitiion that can be saved to another partition other than the OS partition, my documents, mail, MP3"s, A/V..... anything that does not have to do with the OS. Most importantly the reason being if a reformat and fresh install is needed as in your case now, the data is not lost and no hassle of finding it to move like you are having to do now. I have seperate partitons for everything and keep the OS partition barebones. Also partitioning keeps defrag time to a minimum..I'd rather defrag 4 50 GB partitions than 1 200 GB partition....but remember about 15% free space is needed to defrag.

I use ghost and it makes it so much easier to do an image of for backuping up.

So just about anyhting can be put on different HDD's or partitions.

Like Chewy said remember 1 day the HDD is going to go and then this happens

So do I, how do I change the location of the store folder?

Well actually it's not a big deal as my mail is only like 150MB total, that's not too bad.

                          Oh OK.

What else is stored on the system partition, like I know the desktop is, but what other areas cannot be moved to another partition, that data is stored on (other than the WINDOWS folder)

You can even install programs to another location than the defaulf c: if it lets ya.
I would say just about anything that does not have to do with windows can be located elsewhere.

OK, I made the 30GB partition, formatting the rest now (159GB, why must it always be 10GB less than the box says it holds?)

I am not doing quick format, so in a while I will transfer the data.

OK, I installed Windows on the 30GB partition, marked it as active, then made the other partition, put data on it, etc.

I am now reformatting the 160GB drive, and waiting for that to finish.
I will then install all programs but drivers to the non-system partition, and restore data.

Now, do I need to mark the 160GB's partition as active?

                                --EDIT--

Also, do you think Windows would care if I made the System drive into drive D and the data partition into drive C? (right now the Windows partition is C and the data D). That would make it easier to run stuff, since it would be the usual C://.
