Anyway, in this case, I think DiskPart is supposed to disallow assigning the boot drive. btw those guys over in BootLand are crazy!! They're putting like multiple operating systems with a boot menu on single discs. Stuff like that!! Really out there.
Esp. if you have an old machine to have some fun with, you can try out some of their schemes.

It is "blood out of a stone".
Re FolderCache - Nice little app Miles. Can I suggest that if you double click on a folder in the list it opens it?

I'll see what I can do. I tried to position it a bit more in the center horizontally. I'll add the double click. Should be up in 10 mintues or so.Comment

How 'bout Right Click?
Les, believe it or not, AutoIt3 Gui doesn't have built in double click detection. I did change it so that when you right click the mouse it opens selections the same as pressing the button. Should be easier on your carpal tunnel syndrome anyway.
I uploaded already so give it a tryout.Comment

Unreal about not having double click. No way to emulate?
Thanks for the right click though Nice little app as I said before.
Another request - Retain the 24 folders when you close the app. This should be easy - just keep an INI or something in %appdata%/Favessoft with the folders in it.
RegardsLes

Afa saving the folders, I have the FavesSA where you can save to named files. There's no limit to the length of the list or the number of saved files. Plus if you double-click a saved file list it opens FavesSA like an editor.
Give that one a try and in the meantime I'll see about adding the save to .ini file. You're right. That feature wouldn't be difficult. Just write on program shutdown and load on startup.Comment

FolderCache version 1.1
I added the folder list save on exit and read on startup. Makes a simple text file FolderCache.txt in the home folder on first program exit. I like it better this way too, instead of it starting empty all the time.
Please let me know if you find any bugs.Comment

Found a little one.
If you delete a folder, it stays in the list. Trying to open it, gives an error (which needs to be trapped and the folder deleted from the list).
Also, you might consider having more than 24 folders.

Ok, that bug is easy to fix. Eventually it should have a spin button or some other easy way to set the max number of folders without editing an .ini file directly, like I have on XMon.Comment
-
I added an UpDown/Input combination that allows a range of 16 to 64 folders max. The Input control may seem to accept numbers out of range, but when you hit Enter or the UpDown then the number is normalized. Also the List isn't trimmed while it is open. I just save the folder list file and open it again when you close the window. Seems like it works. If there are small bugs they might take awhile to show up. Instead of using an .ini file for the setting I figure to keep this simple so I just put the Maximum folder number as the first line in the FolderCache.txt folder list. If the file is deleted or conversion to an integer in range generates an error then the Max is set to the high end of the range, or 64 folders.
I notice the scrolling isn't exactly spiffy so an optimal number of folders may be somewhere @18 or 20 so that you can see them all without scrolling.. but that's up to the user.Comment

Please download v. 1.3. It fixes a bug introduced in 1.2 that hangs the window when the folder max option is adjusted. Minor brain cramp. Should be good now.
Edit: Updated to 1.4. Made the window a bit taller and updated Readme file a bit. On my machine 24 folders fits nicely without scrolling. I think it's pretty stable now.Last edited by MilesAhead; 25 Apr 2009, 05:07 AM.Comment

Something wrong - on startup I get
Line -1:
Error: Array variable subscript badly formatted
BTW: The link I am using to DL is http://www.favessoft.com/FolderCache.zip
EDIT: Fixed it - the txt file which saves the folders needed a number at the top (number of folders to cache).
