Well it was good for a while .......

I was running DVD Shrink last night before going to bed on a 300 min series disc, about 57 % compression, max. smoothness and deep analysis ... knew it would take a while .... went to bed ...... woke up to a failed burn (DVDD).... failed at about 20% into the burn ...... rebooted and burned manually with ImgBurn .... went OK......

FYI: When it hangs like that I can't kill DVDD via End Task/Process, it's hung and I have to soft-boot out of XP .......

I thought we (you) cured me .... I sick again Doc Chewy ..... ;-(

      mistakes
      1. P4 that gets hot
      2. trying to do a 57% compression with it and quality settings to the max
      3. asking it to burn auto

          1. P4 that gets hot What do you recommend, case is open
          2. trying to do a 57% compression with it and quality settings to the max
I saw in one of the UncasMS threads testing transcoders and encoders where you mentioned doing King Kong at fiftysomething % what setting did you use on DVDS ? Or did you use Procoder or one the other tools ?
          3. asking it to burn auto OK I will stop doing, and I did that before but some of the other failed burns above were manuals as well

you need a damn good heat sink fan, mounted with thin layer of premium paste, past that I can't say, power supply is always a suspect, heat build up?

              Well maybe this will correct:

The more I think about it probably just using some GOOD paste (Arctic Silver 5, which I ordered as well) when I reseated the CPU might have cured. Cuz the original compound had given out. The heat sink came right off (fell off) the CPU.

Will know more once I get installed .....

FYI: I did read reviews where he the CPU I have runs extremly HOT !!!! Hopefully this will clear the woes, definetly will help dats for sure !

                some things to try
                1. turn off hyperthreading
                2. uninstall intel application accerlerator if installed
                3. run shrink in low priority mode
                4. turn off all unused stuff in bios, serial ports, game port, midi?, parrallel port
                etc

                  #3 ---- I already do ! .... will do the others soon

Here is the thing I woke up to this morning .... attached ...

Delayed Write Failed .... and what your seeing is something from a .bat file I wrote to back-up my data (runs from the start-up folder) ..... so what's odd is the puter was on for quite some time, I don't have a clue as to why I would see this in the morning and as mentioned the burn failed.

It gets really hot when running Shink, which you know (see below) normally at 42-44c, even when burning ..... The only things that have changed hardware wise is SATA's, new ROM's and the failure of the compound on the heat sink (could be the issue). We already know that when I lost video and had to re-seat CPU. I'll get the new HS and paste today or tomorrow and will install ths weekend. Try that for for a while before I make anymore changes

                    This is while running Shrink:

Chewy, ever use one of these:

Finally got it yesterday, I knew it was gonna be big (reviews), but I was still shocked .... it's one big mo-fo

I got a really BIG case and I think it will barely fit if I were to put the see-thru side panel on .. or maybe not .... no matter, I usually leave the panel off ....

it's a HUGH Cooler, almost as BIG as my power supply ... LOL !!!

Hoping for it to lower by at least 10c at a min, will see this weekend ....

it's all about cleaning the core cover, priming both it and the heat sink with a little high quality paste and then spreading the thinnest layer before seating.
