I use the 40-45$ power supplies, but not one of those like in the alien, what was the rating on that old one?

Just recently purchased a Aspire X-Navigator case. It came with the OEM PSU, I kinda liked the PSU with the clear cover, knob for fan speed and UV cable sleeve. I did check the specs, not too impressed but like you I did read some favorable reviews. I migrated everything over. I booted and everything was great. I like the looks and the system cools well after I turned some fans around. After about 20mins of benchmarking(trying to catch Ski in the memstat memory bench... not) The system shutdown, reboot and again shutdown. It would not power up after that. I put my old case PSU in redid the cables and it has ran without a blink since. I contacted the online store I purchased the case from and they would not RMA just the PSU... ???? Send back the whole thing ? But they did offer to give me the Aspire contact. No problem they would RMA it .... should be here today ... but you know what? Don't think I'll put it in ... backup .... I do like the looks though... and by the way it's a 500watt $50.00 PSU .... hmmmm whats that tell ya
Probably the exact same PS !!!

That FSP will cure this sub-par PS, you even noticed the User Reviews on NewEgg about the flaky PS. I knew that going in and still bought the case, and still GLAD I did ... I LUV this case, at least I was lucky I got 4+ years outta dat PS. Everytime I have to go in and swap cards. HD's, ROMs, etc ... it is a BREEZE, great case. With that NEW FSP it will be a kick a$$ box ... and then when I get dat Conroe in it it will be the Alien's Rocket to a bigger universe ..... LOL !!!

BTW: The next case purchase will be without a PS, buy for chassis features ONLY !!! I really like that ONE with the Front and Rear 120 fan holes (Jet Engine). I realize the turbine is fluff .... ... I like it cuz I will keep the side panels on the Media Center box, probably pull off the door to the ROMs and dress it up with Reostats, MediaCard/USB Panels (5.25")

I lke this CASE as well, if anyone interested the black verison is much cheaper. I like cases that are tooless designs ... like the Alien box ..

      Cheers ...

BTW: Looks like the Roxio was the cause of the BSOD, they are gone !!!

nevermind, it's on the sticker on the top of the PS where you can't see it,
            clever ploy
            that 500watt fortron is
            +12V1@15A, +12V2@15A
            and they are conservative

Yea I saw the testing and reviews ... nice PS, I like it, probably will use the same in the Media Center build ....

With regards to the sticker, I just don't remember ever seeing it ... would mess up there BEAUTIFUL clear cover ... LOL .... all show, but it was good while it lasted and I will still probalby use it, just reduce the components when I transfer cases ... everything seems OK except for Burning

We'll see if it even has a sticker when I pull it out next week, maybe this weekend if I get lucky (doubt it, never got deliverly/tracking notification yet) ....

OK Chewy, I couldn't wait any longer, got fed up with the burns failing while I doing some other task and I needed a half-way decient box for the wife/son.

So I picked this up at Fry's for $169 ... CLICK HERE ... don't know why, but $10 cheaper at the store ....

I picked up two 1gb sticks of OZ Gold PC2 6400 DDR800. They were on sale too, $149 after $40 rebate, orig cost $189. I figured not too bad for 2gb.

You ever use OZ Gold ... guess I find out if it's any good after I run memtest on it. Reviews not to good on newegg .... didn't have it to look at while I was at the store .....

Still waiting on the PS and two Seagates 320gb SATA 3.0's from newegg.

Last do you think I will have to get a chip cooler for the CPU or does the stock one do a sufficent job ... they run cooler than that P4 I got, yes ? Guess I can wait on that and see what Everest outputs....

I gonna wait a long time for the Conroe prices to drop .... the E6400 and an the Asus mobo was gonna be $500+ smackers .... I got all the guts (CPU, mobo, 2GB mem, 2 SATA's, for the same price $516, another $70 or that KEWL PS and I good to GO!!!!!

OK installed new IDE cables (4-5 days ago), single to each drive, still failures ....

LAst night installed the NEW PS ... bingo looks good ... I did a test .... encoded one title while burning another title to disk. Encode went fine as expected, BUT the burn was successfull .... that wooda failed with the old PS.

Hopefully its fixed today and tomorrow will tell !!!!

I have noticed in a couple of posts by Dee over at cdfreaks, she says for quality burns you have to have a good power supply.

In my case it looked like I needed a GOOD PS to even get successive burrns...

I musta threw away at least 4-6 TY's this weekend, uncommon for me if I have a fuctional box .... well if this does fix it I will be odering another one of these bad boys ..... very quiet too !!!! I will need this one for the NEW build so I can test the board and mem before my 15 days is up to return (Frys).

So what do you think of what I purchaced above, couldn't pass on the pricing, and I got AMD Dual Core ?

Seems as though the DV server had a burb !!!

well the cpu/3800 is worth 150$ so I guess the ecs mobo is worth 30$
not had much luck with them(3 died in the first year or two)

                        good deal on that memory

Running a BIG TEST right now to see if it's REALLY fixed ...

Surfing the web.... running TWO sessions of Clone2 and burning to disc, if that completes without error it was definetly the PS ......

I only went with that combo cuz the reviews of the mobo were pretty good on new egg ... guess I'll find out ..... I know it's not a Conroe but for under $600 I got a DC box with all components (includes the FS ps).... the only ? item is the mobo .... I prefer ASUS ......

Edit: as mentioned the Conroe E6400 and ASUS mobo would have been approx $550.

Look at how hard the HD is working, the CPU is a COOL cucumber (running two sessions of Clone2):

                              Sensor Properties:
Sensor Type Winbond W83627THF (ISA 290h)
                              Motherboard Name Asus P4S800D Series

                              Temperatures:
                              Motherboard 35 °C (95 °F)
                              CPU 32 °C (90 °F)
                              WDC WD1600JD-00FYB0 46 °C (115 °F)
                              WDC WD1600JD-00FYB0 42 °C (108 °F)
                              Seagate ST3250823AS 41 °C (106 °F)
                              Seagate ST3250823AS 38 °C (100 °F)

I really like that Ninja Cooler, it looks as though it doesn't come with the proper hardward to mount it to and AM2 board ... will need to check into further .... I see they are Out of Stock at newegg ..... everybody musta saw my temp drops with this bad boy ..... ROTF !!!

that's the kind of cooler you need for dual core overclocking and multithreaded video encoding, taking 5 gigahertz and pushing the envelope
