One other thing I forgot to mention was I started getting a Post msg at powerup ... "CPU Fan Failed" .. when in fact it was running fine (I keep my case open and it sits on my desktop (reach out and touch someone/cpufan ...

I disabled the msg in the BIOS, apparently it has something to do with the rotation speed of the fan. What's odd is it didn't do it originally or coincidentally I had the volume turned down on the speakers during bootup ......

Houston the Eagle (X-SuperAlien/FSP Group PSU) has landed .....

Both discs burned with flying colors .... the AlienX box is back in bidiness !!!!

THX to Chewy (and LUK) for getting my dying box tuned up and back in 100% working order ..... I feel VERY CONFIDENT after those two Clone burns, if it can do that ... problem solved !!!!

PS: Will be purchasing another "Blue Storm" ... TODAY !!!!

I'll look at the fan thing, change the RPM setting see if that fixes it.

And I will run a TEST of FAST Burning .....

I also what to do that System Cleaner you posted a while back too !!! Never enough time .... at least I got the Alienx box burnin successfully (fingers crossed) .....

I was doing them all at MAX, 6 min or less burns have to do some CD Speeds for ya !!!

BTW: How did you happen to select the Fortron AX500, other than finding me something under $100 ..... The more I look at this model on the web the better it looks .....

it's all about filters in searches, ratings, number of reviews etc

                for example this burner

                688 people rated it a 5,

no telling how many had too many hard drives and a bad power supply?

Well it looks like you autta get kick-back from BenQ .... newegg was SOLD OUT xcept for one Open Box ..... Meritline had a real good deal as well, they were sold out too !

Found one at Shop4Tech ($41 shipped) with Nero (don't need, been using ImgBurn for most of my needs) ..... I ordered it !

I need a good Reader/Scanner, had some discs (work related training tools) that I needed to copy and they were authored on Ritek G05's. The NEC's wouldn't read the last 20% of disc/sectors. I pluged in my ole Plex 708A and it read them, luckly cuz the Plex almost dead (get Servo Tracking error, alot) but it read these G05's. Hence my purchase of the BenQ DW1650 per your recommendations in other posts.

I have a question, you show 3 optical drives in your sig, are all these in one box ? One on a USB ?

The reason I ask is (here's me wanting to already overload that new PS) I would like to keep both NEC's and add the BenQ in the loop. But that would mean chaining two of them on a double headed IDE, as such:

Primary IDE = NEC 3540A (single IDE cable)
Secondary IDE = NEC 3550A and BenQ (double head IDE cable)

So in the end, 4 SATA's and 3 Opticals ....

                  Thoughts ?

I have 2 main work boxes with 2 burners in each, complimentary pairs,
all standalone masters. top ones master ide, good reader, benq and lg.
bottom ones, fast readers and main burners, nec's.
source disk in top, blank in bottom, 8x COF without a hitch now that I have gotten rid of all my crap burns

So the NECs are on the SEC_IDE1 channel (mobo connection), separate cable to each drive from mobo ?

Yeah I'll go your method for now and put the 2 NEC in the son's puter, and go with 1 NEC and the BenQ in my box ..... they'll be in two seperate rooms

I won't have two boxes on my desk now, maybe when the Core 2 Duo's come down in price I'll build another

Little more clarifiaction on COF (Crappy Old Fart), sorry I'm drawing a blank, go ahead me

                      BTW:
1 - assume you run through a KVM switch, or two complete setups on the same bench/desk ?

2 - What do you use to logon to another box, ie NetMeeting, PC Anywhere, etc

3 - I just want to have a toast to you , you are such a GREAT help to so many .... call you BraveHeart !!!!

I use a 6ft table coming off the end of a 5 ft desk at a 90. When needed
I clear my work area and set up a 3rd computer. no kvm

rarely use 3 for any video work, mostly just move boxes in and out that I am repairing/reloading

                        here's a COF dare

OK now when I drop the 3520, I will have a NEC 3540, 3550 and the new BenQ coming in the mail. I will pair these up as you mentioned.

I need a fourth at this time now what is the best choice as a second reader, is it the LG 4163B ? Or is there a better choice today ? ?

THX in Advance as usual !

well I paired my lg4163B with my nec 3550(main burning and occasional scan),
the lg is getting old and I save it for hard to read disks, don't know about new lg's, that's why I am nursing mine. Maybe a liteon for a reader scanner?

                              DOA !!!!!

At Post ..... "CPU Failed Test......CPU Failed Test......CPU Failed Test......etc"

Well I guess we finally found the real culprit, the PS kept me from get full FAILED burns .... but I still got errors not as often after installing new PS. I would get Sync Cache failed at the end of burns, I would just hit continue/OK and the burn would be OK .... never got a full burn failure .....

                              PS: I'm working/surfing from my p3-500 .... sooooo .. slowwww !! LOL !

What funny is I have all the parts to build a NEW box except the main components .... CPU, mobo, RAM .... really leaning towards the Conroe

FYI: I brought back the the AMD X2 3800, ECS, and OZ RAM ... got my 400 smackers back ..... the ram was incompatable with the ECS mobo

Bought a combo at Fry's (second try)...... this time I got a board that could use the Corsair XMS ram from the AX box incase I can't get a warranty replacement on the P4 2.4 CPU (the box was GREAT up until the burn failures)

The combo from Fry's is a AMD 64 3500+ (939 Socket) and a ECS K8T890. The ram worked this time on this mobo, it doesnt like OCZ ram. Both for $99, not to bad, rocks pretty good so far, boots faster than the AX but its still pretty clean .... only thing installed so far is Nero6 (basic), PowerDVD5, PartionMagic8, gotta go do the rest .....

Hopefully Intel RMAs the CPU and that is the issue if not the CPU it's the mobo, northbridge, etc .. I've replaced everything else .....

                                AX
