chewy & others interested on chiming in...

In the previous post, you suggested going with the 250 GB Seagate. for a new build.

I am looking to replace the HD in my current pc as well. I have ample storage with my IDE drives, so I really don't need quite as large as 250 for only a C/ windows drive.

I am really looking for a fast boot & processing time for this machine. I still want to go with sata 150.

Would a smaller HD give me an "edge" in that, or am I just splitting hairs here. It would seem to me that a smaller HD would be faster in all aspects, as there is less physical area to be accessing...

you are splitting hairs, it's true that smaller is faster(all other factors being equal), the difference is neglible. What's critical is keeping a small system partition lean and mean.

I am always looking to boost speed & performance. I have been searching the net for "speed & performance" sites, & have come across a lot of useful(?) info.

Some of the changes that I implemented didn't seem to do a thing. I do know about turning off unnecessary processes & programs, but it seems like (durn) windoze restarts a lot of it upon the next boot!

I think, like many folks on here, that Newegg is one of the best places to buy components. I have not had a problem with them yet, & I like many of their free shipping deals.

Not too crazy about the mail-in rebate game, but most all retailers do that these days... Still waiting on $40 rebate from compusa purchase from 12/06...

Well then, my $30 Norwood (Benq) burners just ended up costing me $50 ea. I bought 2, sent in for 2 rebates...Oh well, that's how the cookie crumbles, I guess...
