Have you tried to re format the card? It is strange that it would damage the card to the point of being unusable.

It would have to be on the camera, if you can not get to the format screen then I am going to have to say it is toast. Do you have any other memory cards and what type of card is it?

Before re-formatting the card, look for a program that may be able to recover what was on the card! I remember seeing one like an undelete program BUT that was months ago. Go to the card manufacturer's site. I bet other people have had this problem.

Another thing, is the copy protection slide on the card in the protected position? Check that out as a bang may have moved it.

thanks for the help everyone but it seems that the card (and the pics on it) are gone...cam will not let me reformat it and when I went to the company site the program on there you had to pay for.and the pics aren't worth paying for really...thanks anyways!

If the memory card is not recognized in the PC or it is impossible to access the data on it, the controller on the card is damaged. There is only one way to get the data back, unsolder memory chips and directly access their raw data with a programable chip reader. Software can't help, that is a physical damage! Have a look at: CF xD SD memory card error

                  Just Curious,

Is the card larger than 1 GB and your card reader older than a year?

Many card, readers, mine included can not read a larg SD card. (Like 4GB).

though u have bumped an old thread, anyway, my printers cardreader was working fine with 4 gb sdcard untill one day it just doesnt want to open them. but then within a month time that card dies. so im hoping my printer can still read 4 gb as im onto 2 gb now.
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

                      Oops, missed the date.

I wonder if Derree ever got his pics off that card?

                      @ atifsh,

The printers that are card capable seem to do fine with the larger ones, but the card readers that come with off the shelf PC's that are more than a couple of years old seem to not be able to handle the larger size.

I did order a new card reader from Newegg and I'll post if that solves it.

2Gb does seem like a fairly good size one. Funny, I see 8 gig ones on sale for $20 around and I think not too many years ago I upgraded my old PC because a person could never fill a 8 gig HDD at the time. Of course that was around Y2K.
