I use Anyclient which gives me great abilities in file transfer and also it is a free platform independent file transfer application that supports all major file transfer protocols including FTP/S, SFTP and WebDAV/S.

I use FileZilla myself currently but what narrows the list down considerably is searching for a free FTP Client with Server to Server Transfer. For instance, if you have a dial-up connection it's a real bottle neck to do a bulky download only to upload to another server. With Server to Server you transfer over the internet backbone, not your phone line.

Other than that FileZilla seems pretty solid.
