    Karaoke making program?

I was just wondering if there were any good free/shareware programs that can remove vocals from songs (but not the cheap kind that doesn't work)!

Additionaly, there is a program called utagoe that is used for making a capellas (a friend sent it to me... no idea who makes it because it's all in Japanese). I know that "chapter edit" was in Japanese but someone made an English one, any idea of this is tru of utagoe as well? It shows as all squares to me (and yeah I have Asian languages installed... but it's all still jibberish to me )

    DRF,
Think about a picture (graph) of a wave file, you are seeing amplitudes graphed by time, now imagine the frequency graphs associated with that wave, now imagine 8 tracks from different sources combined to make that wave. Each source having overlaping frequecies. Now contemplate the thought of a computer program that will sort all those out and remove 1 or 2 of those sources. Grasp the physics.

Well, I am able to make an a capella with utagoe... some remnants left but it works OK (what you do is provide a WAV of the normal song and a WAV of the instrumental, some instrumentals are easy to find)
I wanna know if there's a way to do that in reverse, like using an a capella and saying "mute anything sounding like this".

Additionaly, I have no idea how to use the settings in utagoe because it's Japanese, but someone said it can make instrumentals.

It's odd how the studios release some instrumentals but not others.
Too bad we can't get songs in all 8 tracks or whatever... even mixing an a capella and an instrumental in Audacity muxes it to two tracks.

        Hi drf,

I came across this awhile back; never used it, but I know a lot of his stuff is good... http://www.analogx.com/contents/down...o/vremover.htm

There is also another pgm., I heard about several years ago on "Call for Help" (Leo Laporte). It was a neat little pgm., that did a good job of removing them - well, a fairly good job!

I can't remember the name of it now! I'm gonna search thru my notes & backups to see if I can locate it. It was free, very simple to use.

But, as chewy hinted at, nothing is going to completely remove them, at least nothing that I am aware of, since the final mixdown combines all the tracks...

EDIT: Just found this - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/karaokeanything.html

Again, don't know how well either work, but would be a fun project!

        just my 2 cents...

        regards, katz

          Hey drf,

I remembered the name of the other vocal reducing pgm. - "Soritong"

I've used it in the past, & I believe it did a fair job. It is freeware. I still do not think that there is software that will give you an instrumental by completely removing vocals, AFAIK...

          katz...

OK I have AnalogX, doesn't work too well...

All I know is that there are instrumentals floating around the 'Net, where do they come from? Some of them must be handmade... not all come from the studios!

I will try those later, I am actually not allowed to use the computer the rest of the week (because my parents are mean), so I am using a library computer

              it's tough sometimes...

I've heard those instrumental/karoke mixes, too. Never really looked into how they did it, but I did come across this interesting site...

Don't think it is all instrumental, but still neat...

              Now - SOOT!

Chewy don't you need a karaoke CD for that?

I am talking about, I have a song on CD that I want an instrumental for. Some of them I have a capellas that I found on sites with those... but I want instrumentals.

Keep digging, that site is like layers of an onion, when I want to find out something on a certain subject I go to a site that specializes in that subject.

Once you remove the vocals(or attempt to) aren't you going to finish the job and create the graphics(lyrics) and make it a karaoke cd?

You are getting way beyond the scope of this forum and I am trying to point you in the right direction.

I am using them for various purposes...
But I am looking for a way to turn an existing song INTO karaoke, not the other way around.

This is actually what I had in mind:

I wanted to recreate that little intro without the voices... but the instrumental still has the singing at that part (where the girls are singing).
