Help! I just re-formatted my hard drive and can only play home movies!

The AVI files I stored on my hard-drive wont play on windows media player (all except my cam-corder files), It keeps saying something about codecs? and will only play the sound.Media player (9) will only play the sound.I've a lot of music videos and its all sound and no picture at the moment! Anyone steer me in the right direction?

PLease download and install ffdshow, XviD, and Haali Media Splitter and stay away from codec packs. Also be sure to check for newest video or graphics card driver from its manufacture

For ffdshow and and Haali Media Splitter (Matroska splitter), you can get them here:

          For XviD:

Is it because its a newer version of media player that the files wont play?

Media players needs certain decoders to plays the files. Windows Media Player often doesn't come completely with needed decoders. Media Player Classic comes available with preloaded decoders and with help of ffdshow and and Haali Media Splitter, you should be OK
