That's true. I am still surprised how cool the 3700 runs at the moment. At the moment, the 3700 is 36 C while surfing the net according to Everest.

I read somewhere that the X2 3800 is just two 64 3800's on the die. Is it the same for the other X2's? The reason I ask, is in theory, shouldn't the X2 3800 be twice as fast as one 3700 when using both cores for one task?

According to this test. There doesn't seem to be much difference between the 4200 and the 4600.

no, but amd was conservative in their rating system as most apps are not multithreaded, have to look at the core frequency.

my theory on the heat is you will be using both cores at close to maximum more than an average user and heat could become a problem, do you have the option to buy oem and do a custom mount of a premium heat sink/fan?

your 120mm case fan should prevent any heat build up in the case, but I am
not impressed with any amd cooling.

I am running 35C at 2500Mhz in a hotter climate

This is where I saw about the two 64's. It is taken from the AMD FAQ.

        Q:

Does the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core processor design have two AMD Athlon 64 processors on a single die?

        A:

Yes. The AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core processor design is true dual-core - with two CPU cores on one die. AMD’s dual-core architecture relies on advanced Direct Connect Architecture to supply each core with the memory and I/O bandwidth needed to maintain high performance per core. AMD’s on-chip integrated memory controller ensures that both cores have optimal access to the integrated memory controller and integrated HyperTransport™ links, so that performance scales well with the number of cores.

Our competitor’s dual-core processor, as illustrated in press coverage, relies on outdated front-side bus architecture to relay both memory and I/O traffic from the cores to the memory controller that resides outside the processor chip.
CPU temps have been as high as 47 C due to 2 weeks of very hot weather. Inside temperture has been as high a low 40's C

OEM's are no cheaper than retail versions. I can get another heatsink but it can't be any higher than my current heatsink (suppled AMD one). There is metal supports above it. My DAd has the same case but transparant top. I can get him to see if there is extra room at the top for bigger heatsinks.

          3800 venice is a 2.4Ghz
          the x2 3800 is 2 2.0GHz cores

see, even tho you have 4 Ghz total they are averaging performance rating

I don't suppose you know a link that shows the height of the supplied heatsink for both the 3700 and 4200?

I do about 20 frames per second in full D1 mode, if that helps. So, it's almost real time.

And my temps are also around that. 36 deg C for both Mobo and CPU. No overclocking (yet).

It looks like I have a problem. The heatsink that comes with the processor is too big. I need a smaller one with a height about 80mm max including the fan.

Another good point. There doesn't seem to be much choice from what I found when wanting smaller heatsink that does X2.

X2 is not a worry, since the socket is the same, just how well it cools

and in your case you will be pushing both cores a lot
