    Media Player Classic - ISO

(This probably belongs in the DVD playback software forum but it doesn't appear that one gets used/viewed often)

Can MPC open and play an ISO file? I get "unable to render file" error. Thought it could but I haven't found out how. Using the newest version I believe of MPC - v6.4.9.0

Daemon Tools of course will, and Shrink will in the preview window (can double click or F11 for full screen) but then there are no control features.
Just curious if I missed a setting or preference somewhere in MPC. Thanks...

I have Media Player Classic installed along with ffdshow. My format settings for MPC are video/all, audio/all. To play an ISO I right click on the ISO file & open with Media Player Classic. There is also another option to play from hard drive with this guide.

          Thanks Soup.
Doesn't work for me "can not render file" same as when MPC is open and you go to file>open. Have all settings enabled like you too. What is ffdshow? Is that a plugin for MPC that allows ISO play? There probably IS a plugin for this that I don't know of.
Really like MPC, first time I've discovered something I can't play (so far). I did need to install QuickTime Alternative though to be able to play a short MP4 file someone sent me.

The guide is not for ISO, I don't have any problem with standard DVD files. Just thought I'd try another method of viewing prior to future DL burning so I'm planning ahead. Thanks again!

the source of the iso would determine whether MPC could render?

I ripped a DVD in ISO mode and saved to hard drive. I downloaded and installed ffdshow. ISO & accompanying MDS file are saved. Still missing something here?? Will keep searching.
Suggestions Soup or Chewy? Thanks guys.

I wouldn't waste a dual layer disk trying to burn a regular dvd iso till I knew it was ok, mount the iso with daemon tools and see what's up with the rip?

                    ffdshow just in case.

                    Edit: ignore my slowness.

                      @Chewy
Oh yes, I agree. I'm not burning this one to a DL by any means.
Others are able to view ISO with MPC so I was trying to find why I could not, yet.

ffdshow is not in the same folder as MPC - both in their own in Program Files. This is not the problem is it?

                        "unable to render file"
generic error, could mean almost anything. make sure file isn't in use, reboot. which OS? (edit: d'oh!, screenshot says xp)

mpc has everything it needs to play a dvd, ffdshow won't help here

i'd imagine mpc only plays compliant images. VC-1 isn't compliant (yet ). dunno if that's the issue here since shrink accepts it?

gs47, tried an image of another dvd?
