    who made your motherboard? Abit or Seagate

    OK, OK, lol I know, I violated rule #xx, the D'OH rule!!!

    I have been dealing w/ tech issues all last week, & my brain is a little frazzled at this point. I guess it's time for a personal "reboot"!

      Getting there!

      Got the proper files on the floppy & during the install, I am able to load it; Now, it gives me an option of choosing 4 different files -here I am lost again...did a lot of searching, & can't seem to determine which file is correct.

      Any ideas?

        disk4 = "VIA Serial ATA RAID Controller Driver ", \via\VT8237, \via\winxp\
        .

          Tried to post screenshot, but for some reason, wouldn't upload to forum...
          disk4 = "VIA Serial ATA RAID Controller Driver ", \via\VT8237, \via\winxp\
          I thought that was the correct one, when looking at them after the download, but after I load all of the files onto the floppy, & start the install, it doesn't give me the option to select that particular one.

          I will try the screenshot again... original was too large..

            VIARAID_VT3149_XP = "VIA Serial ATA RAID Controller for Windows XP",VT8237
            floppy must be bad, cause that's a via 8237 southbridge with integrated raid?

            is this your mobo?

            enlargen picture, you see the via chipset next to the serial connectors, there's no other raid chipset there

            sil would be the only other candidate, via and intel don't mix that well

              that is correct.

              I will format a few floppies & try it all again to see if it will see the correct one.

              out for now...

              EDIT - Again, can I just put that particular folder on the floppy to eliminate all the confusion of choosing the correct one during install?

                yes but be sure and have the textsetup file(that's what's corrupted)

                may have a bad floppy drive(from not being used)

                  I'm baaaaaack!!!

                  (Finally) got up & running. A simple fix, really. What I have determined is that the files on abit site are not complete/corrupt.

                  I dnloded them 1/2 dozen or more times, followed the instructions for putting on floppy, & the correct (VIA) files would still not show up on the floppy during install...although I could view them after I created the disc, & I could see them on there...

                  What I did: The fix was - I ended up copying the VIA files over from my mainbord CD to the floppy; went thru the setup, & installed like a breeze! PC is up & running stable, I am happy!

                  Thanks Chewy for giving me all the assistance thru my *D'oH* moments, I appreciate the time you took to help me!

                  Cheers, katz

                      Can someone post a screenshot of his device manager showing the disk controller group in expanded form and then the driver details for the SATA controllers. I just want to be sure its configured correctly for me. thanks

                          tech, this is what I have, it seems to be working great for me; are you using the same board as I am? (KV7-V)?

                          regards, katz

                            Thanks, no its a differnet board, but can you also post the expanded view of your IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in the device manager window itself.

                              tech, there's too many different chipsets and drivers to generalize
