PCI - IDE Controller card issue

I have been experiencing an oddity with my PCI/IDE Controller card setup. I have 2 Benq (1655) set up on this card; The other 2 Benq (1650) are set on IDE 2 controller on the mobo.

Recently I discovered that a game (Sims) will not load & play from the burners connected to the controller card, but will play when in either of the drives conected to the ide 2 on the mobo. Why is this happening?

      Hi katz!

Just a wild guess....plz correct me if I am wrong anyone....

Might be some limitation of the Sims game...cant run on drives going thru a IDE card..but only work on the mobo's IDE connections. (???)

You might look at the Sims game's configuration file (cfg if its tagged as such) or within the setups for the game to see if there is some flag or something that will let it look byond the mobo IDE controllers.

      Here..I will fix it!

I have (2) 80 GB drives connected to IDE 2 on the mainboard, as storage drives.

I found a couple reviews on the newegg site that say it won't work with ATAPI devices such as DVD ROM because of the RAID bios. But I don't know for sure about it.

I did see that, but thought I would try anyway. Don't have any problem ripping/burning or installing programs, though...

                  Just with this game...

believe me if there weren't problems then all the geeks over at cdfreaks wouldn't be using a special non raid bios with those sil controllers

got a little ways thru this thread then had to have a drink or two

Thanks for the link, chew. I started reading it a bit; it seems as if ALL of the IDE add-on cards have various issues...

I was going to originally put the pata drives on the card, but the instructions say to put each HD on as master on IDE 1 & 2, not master/slave on the same cable. Then there is the RAID/0/1/Striping, etc.....It got kind of confusing for me, so this looked like an easier way of doing it!

use the hard drives as standalone masters, but don't stripe

if you never move files from one to the other let them share a cable

Okay - so just connect them up as standalone masters, boot & that's it? I don't want to do something I am unsure of & end up deleting data that I have on there!

I do have backups, but still, it would be a pain...

                            13. Question:
Can the RC-200 RAID card work as a regular IDE controller?
                            Answer:
Yes, it can. The RC-200 RAID controller has ATA133 + RAID function. If you don’t create any RAID set,
the card will work as ATA133 card but you still have to install the RC-200 RAID driver and you will see
this message “Press F3 to enter RAID Utility during every startup of the computer.
