move as much data off of your system drive as possible, do disk cleanup and then defrag

you might want to see my power user sticky at top of page

you have less than 1% free on your system drive, get busy and quit arguing,
        you'll be reinstalling windows again

I keep at least 10 gigs free, good thing too, nero vision decided to drop 4.5 gigs in a temp folder in my documents and when I hit abort it left them there.

windows gets confused when it gets fragged and running out of room, you can't even count on it being accurate about what's left

in a low ram situation your swap file may need to grow

windows will even give you a message that you don't have enough hard drive space to defrag

did you do disk cleanup and defrag as specified in the power user guide?

you can get a little more room for windows by getting rid of hibernation

make sure your case is cleaned out, no dust bunnies and the power connectors are all plugged in good, maybe power supply is getting weak
