When I stick a blank DVD into my machine it crashes. If ImgBurn is started before hand this doesn't happen. It does not happen with Discs (of any kind, CD, DVD) that have data on them. I get that blue screen that says windows is shutting down bla blah blah....restart in safe mode...check drivers.etc. My computer is an AMD 3700 XP 754 Asus K8Vse. 2 gig s of ram. I put the lastest firmware for my Lite-On Sho 1633 but the problem is the same. Auto start is disabled.

I always have my CD/DVD autorun feature disabled. Leave it on, IMHO, causes more problem than help. Also RipIt4Me author advised us to start the tool before inserting DVD though. Please read more from the link below and follow its instruction if you want to do it:

Everything is up to snuff and I haven't installed anything recently. I actually had this problem once before but it "went away", which is really annoying. I built this computer and it only has what it needs so it must be something weird that I did that has slipped my mind. I was just hoping someone would know something more specific as the driver for the DVD burner is up to date also. (I imagine everything isn't up to snuff or this wouldn't be happening!)Comment

Well, I thought I had autorun disabled but I didn't. I disabled but the problem still persisted. It crashed again. I have now reset the BIOS to the factory default and guess what, problem gone. I don't remember touching the BIOS and can't imagine why something would change. Is it possible it was corrupted and resetting it put it back (I don't think that makes sense) but the problem is gone. I just hate when you fix something and aren't sure what the heck caused it.Last edited by toomanycats; 18 Sep 2006, 08:47 AM.Comment

So what changed by resetting the BIOS? Could it (the BIOS) have changed by installing a driver update or something? Did I just shift the problem to somewhere else? I had to Google BSOD, I am not to good with acronyms.Comment
