How to wipe a external drive clean

How do I get everything off an external drive so I can return it? and I mean OFF.

Trend Micro's anti-spyware, has a "shredder" option that is supposed to overwrite areas using multiple passed so their is no trace left meeting Department of Defence standards. (so they say anyway) If that is true and you do it followed by a reformat, I would think all would be gone.

right click the drive letter that the ext. is on and just click "format". Everything should already be set and just click OK.
