Ok, this might seem off the wall but I cleaned my machine the other week and decided to switch slots for the video card in hopes of better air flow. When I booted I had no display. Changed the card back and all was well. Did all your cards go back into their original slots?
yeah, its in the green avg slot or whatever its called, only place it can go. Thxs for the imput. Ill get back to everyone once I try a new vid card and let u guys know if that worked, if not back to square one

Do you have another pc that you could put the vid card in temporarily
to test it?
I would be careful; Hopefully installing this card in your parents pc as a test won't corrupt their current drivers, creating another problem for you. I would boot long enough to ensure that it is working, don't install any drivers/software, & turn pc off as soon as you determine if it is working;
Just had another thought; if they are running xp, & you can't see the screen after the test, turning the pc off w/o going thru the proper shutdown could hose their system - I know, I've done it before!
I was able to get back up & running with system restore, though.

The computers i'm getting into are older E machines that my grandparents used for buisnes. there no longer with us so no worries about killin them. Thxs for the advice though, my plan was to take the video card out of the computer at my moms and bring it to my house to try in my computer. That would work also correct?
I dont think those computers would have a slot for my video card

If it is an AGP card, sure. There are different voltage cards, however; I would check to be sure that all is the same. An older pc may have a pci card in it. It is easy enough to tell the diff., though. The slots are of different size/configuration.
I was thinking it was going to be a pci card thats the older one that fits in the normal slots right? If thats the case could I still use it for testing as long as the voltage was ok? Mines the one that fits in the green slot agp right? I doubt they have the slot that sits further back greeny agp?
shoot these are old compters there might just be a built in vid car on the mb

this sounds dumb, but have you tried adjusting the brightness on the screen?
Good point; don't overlook the obvious! My first pc had a monitor with a brightness knob under the front; I was cleaning the desk once, & inadvertantly rotated the knob when cleaning under the monitor.
Took me quite awhile to figure that one out! I was checking everthing!!!
Voltage will be okay on pci card - it is the agp that may be different. BTW, the agp slot may be diff. color on different boards; mine is light brown;
No I didnt mess with the brightness but I tested the montior on another computer. I ordered a new vid card and put it in my computer still no display. I dont know anything else to try I know the monitor is working fine I get all boot up lights fans and whistles, just no screen.. Everyone wants like $100 dollars just to diagnose the stupid thing. Bleh Any new ideas anyone?

@ can you connect another monitor to this pc to test?
This is an odd one...If it was my pc, I would be tempted to reset the cmos & reboot. (just grasping at straws here, maybe someone else has a better idea)
When the pc boots, do you get anything at all on the monitor? BIOS screen, etc? Is the status led on the monitor "green"?
I get absoultly nothing at all on the monitor when it boots

I didnt test the computer to another monitor I tested the monitor on another computer. And the monitor worked on another computer
