    Using a continuous ink system?

    Hi,

    Does anyone use a continuous ink system, similar to the one in the links?

    Looks like a great way to go...

    I was wondering what the reliabity of these are? How long can you use before the print head goes bad? Any issues, such as leaking all over the place, maybe from a worn out cartridge?

      @katzdvd,

      I use the interior only continuous ink supply system from printonadime for my Epson R220.

      It comes with six clear see-thru ink tanks with automatic resetable chips. You just refill the ink tanks in the printer no need to remove the ink tanks.

      The factory Epson ink tanks and discount ink tanks are not see-thru and only have one time chips, so your ink counter runs out for each chip the ink tank is dead and can not be refilled. From an electrical standpoint ALL six ink tanks have to have either ALL automatic resetable chips or ALL six one time chips but NOT a mixture.

      Refilled the ink tanks three times now, so far with no problems or ink leaks.

        Thanks for the info, eddie!
        I will probably go for that system for my epson, & I am also looking into the ink system for my hp 3820 http://www.echostore.com/continuous-...em-hp3820.html

        BTW, how many (approx) DVD/CD covers can you print w/ 1 filling?

          How many CD/DVD covers on one refill? Good question, I really don't know.

          I mainly use my Epson R220 for photo's, DVD covers, disk covers, and word processing.
          For the DVD covers and disk covers I use the highest quality settings, so probably more ink is used, but the most ink is used for head cleaning and power cleaning.

          I recycle the black ink from the head cleaning and power cleaning. I have rerouted the ink drain tube that normally goes to the ink pad and evaporates some of the ink, to a plastic storage container on the floor and then recycle the ink. Printonadime has this kit (very cheap) or it is very easy to build your own, check out their web site. http://www.printonadime

            @katzdvd,

            I see the ink tanks for the Epson R220 at echostore.com are NOT see-thru, so that means you would have to remove them from the printer to refill.
            Potential problems of the Epson R220 not acknowledge the refill ink tank because it was removed from the printer and not an Epson brand.
            (minor problem)
            You also can't tell if there ink tanks come with the filter inside the ink tank to help keep the print heads from getting foreign matter and getting cloged.

            The price looks about the same, btw a certain resetable ink chip goes with a certain color, thats why you should order all six colors at one time.

              Ed - Did you post a link for an alternate r220 printer driver/software on the forums previously? I thought I had seen it in the past, but the only link I can find now goes to a foreign website.

              Do you have a link?

              regards, katz

                This is the only one I have used:

                Official Epson® support and customer service is always free. Download drivers, access FAQs, manuals, warranty, videos, product registration and more.

                I think you mean the resetter for the ink pad when it gets full and the printer shuts down.

                  eddie,
                  *do you find that this printer seems unusually "slow" when compared to others of the same specs?
                  *when I try to print in "draft" mode, the print is so light that you can hardly see it; does yours do the same?

                    Be sure you have the option high speed checked.

                    Draft mode light print, I usually use the text mode most of the time which is the default setting, and best photo for the DVD covers and disks.
