    VideoReDo Plus

I got a copy of VideoReDo Plus today and it works fine except for one thing. When I play back what I converted, the picture formats are wrong. A 1:85 ratio has no black bars and everyone's faces are oval-shaped where the screen is pushed in by the sides. I coverted a DVD in the full frame and I thought that would be OK and the people's faces are the same where the screen is pushed in by the sides. I think I know what's wrong but I can't find the setting. I'm converting to MPEG isn't of AVI. I remember when I first started editing my home movies I had this problem when I was using MPEG and things were fine when I used AVI. As I said, in VideoReDo Plus, I can't find the setting to change it to AVI.

    Can anyone help, please?

    Many thanks.

    Darren.

      Converted what to what?

I was hoping to convert DVD VOB files to AVI. I can't understand why VideoReDo Plus doesn't have the feature to convert to AVI like the other software. I've tried those others and all I got was bad picture quality. Now I find one that gives me perfect picture quality, it doesn't allow me to rip to the correct screen format. When I convert something and play it back, it plays in wide screen but not in the letterboxed format. Everybody's faces are oval-shaped as if the screen is pushed in by the left and the right-hand sides. Even though the Full Frame format has no black bars, that comes out in the wrong way, too where the people's faces are also oval-shaped. Sometimes when I play something back that I converted to MPEG, the people's faces look more oval-shaped where the screen is push in by the left and the right-hand side more. When I test DVDs through my Media Player the screen formats are fine.

      Many thanks.

      Darren.

that's simply not it's purpose, videoredo's processing is meant to be as lossless as possible.

How come I get the wide screen without the letterboxed mode? Sometimes it gets worse where I get a wide screen playing back as a square-shaped screen. It's as square as a kitchen tile. The people on the screen look like coneheads where their heads are so thin and tall. The oval-shaped look ruins everything. If this is all the software can do, why did they release it?

          Many thanks.

          Darren.

            dazuk1972,
VideoredoPlus is one of the most effective softwares for the purpose it is meant to serve,i.e. quickly and efficiently editing(cutting, joining, removing ads.) MPEG files. Can you please explain what you are trying to do with it?

All I want to do is rip some of my home-movies on the 1:85 wide screen ratio for re-editing. My home-movies are in the 1:85 wide screen ratio and when I rip some footage with VideoReDo Plus, the screen is a complete square where everyone's faces are oval-shaped like the coneheads and it all looks totally wrong. I should have wide screen ripped with the black bars as in the wide screen as in the letterbox format. I have wide screen without the black bars and everyone's faces are oval-shaped. Think of the software turning a circle into the shape of an egg. I can't rip and burn footage like this. My home-movies play OK before converting with VideoReDo Plus. All I need is the wide screen format in the letterboxed format with the black bars at the top and the bottom of the screen.

              Many thanks.

              Darren.

I get this bad playback when I play back some footage in the Windows Media Player. Two other strange things. The first other strange thing is when I look at my thumbnail on my video file, the picture in the thumbnail is indicating wide screen with the black bars but when I play the footage the black bars are missing again. The second strange thing is when I see the screen on the wrong format where it's wide screen without the black bars, the screen itself is the same shape as a full-framed screen and sometimes the screen format gets worse where it's a complete square. As we know, the full frame screen isn't as square as a kitchen tile. I watched myself on my PC through the Windows Media Player and my head was about an inch wide and three inches tall. Something must have ripped properly because of the wide screen-looking thumbnail with the black bars. I'm going to try previewing through another player.

                  Many thanks.

                  Darren.

Just to say, I tried again through a number of Players and the footage plays wrong in all of them.

Have you checked the options when you save the mpeg. It allows the ratio to be changed or kept the same.

File - Save Video As - Options

I'll have another look in there.
