PC sound not working help !!

I am on my parents computer and the computer sounds does not work. The problem that i think that i have found is that on the bottom right task bar there usually is a sound icon you can click on and change the volume or mute it on different devices and it is not there i have never seen it on their pc!! I have reinstalled all the drivers and when rebooted it recognized the devices but still no luck?? What do you think the problem is??

Should we just go buy a cheap sound card ??

They just want some sound nothing special.

    regards,
    jj

Go to start/ control panel/ sound, speech and audio devices/ sound and audio devices...tick the box that reads "place volume icon in the task bar".

If your speakers are external, please check power connection and stereo jack.

If you have on board sound try reinstalling your drivers or make sure your default device for audio is correct.

Might want to check your Device Manager for a working sound device/driver.

Make sure the Wave volume (different from the main Volume in taskbar) isn't muted, this will result in no sound also.

Pull the speaker plug (headphone 1/8" male) out of the computer & tap on it with your finger or something metal. The static electricity should make the speakers pop & crackle every time you touch it. If not, the speakers are the problem.

i reinstalled all the drivers and the speakers didnt work However, i think his speakers were also bad bc even though the speakers dont work i can plug headphones in and it works great. The speakers were kind of suspect to me in the beginning but even then we couldnt use the headphones. He is gonna get some speakers today and try em out. I am pretty sure they will work now!!
thanks for everything again as always
