    I don't know where else to look or what other programs to use. There is always a system restore or reinstall the os.

      I would bet you the answer is on this page

        Thanks for the link, chewy. I wasn't aware of that page; I bookmarked for future reference. Mostly all entries come up "safe" on that page. The few that doesn't I can identify as safe, such as CyberPatrol, Creative\Sync Manager 7 a few other "benign" entries.

        I will check out the kellys-korner link to further track down the problem. I was talking with my son, & it *seems* as if the problems mostly started occuring when we install the games that he likes to play;

        Sims, Counterstrike, Half-Life, Steam Client...

        Maybe not totaly "nasty", but they are somewhat intrusive, & I am sure it is possible they could be responsible for mucking up things somewhere in the system.

        regards, katz

          @katzdvd - I just did a search of the registry in XP Home on my laptop and looked for the word "officially" and it is not in mine. Maybe a registry search for "officially" can find it for you.

            jm,
            After I remove the history, cookies, temp files, auto complete, etc., it still shows up in the address bar. But after a couple of days of continually deleting all that stuff, the entry goes away on its' own.
            It is not an issue with any particular word, etc.; It can be any word or phrase that I type into a google search. It almost seems that google is setting unremovable cookies or something on my pc...but as I stated above, after a few days of deleting the history over & over, it does go away.

            I will continue to hammer on this as I get time. It is really more of a minor annoyance than anything else at this point!

            regards, katz
