Make sure you put them in individual folders in that folder that you created in your documents. When you update always save to that folder & install to your program files. As for the running processes, I would post them & let Chewy take a look, he's the pro from Dover. For controlling what starts & what doesn't with your startup, I would look in to a program called AutoRuns.

My startups are fine, I don't seem to have a problem there. My biggest problem with the processes is the Folding. I installed it a long time ago, and I can't get rid of it. I know it goes to a good cause, but my PC can't handle it.

I'll click on the FAH process to end it, but it comes back whenever I reboot. It doesn't show up when I try to uninstall it either. I use CCleaner to uninstall.Comment

If you downloaded the application just find the F@H folder in your program files & delete it. Then do a search for anything that says Folding@Home, FAH orF@H (you know what I mean, anything to do with it) & get rid of it. It is running as an application not a program.Last edited by soup; 2 Dec 2006, 03:14 PM.

Open msconfig's StartUp section and disable whatever you can do without. This will keep them from starting up when you boot and, except for a very few, they can be started manually from START/All Programs. So far, the only two I've found that cannot be (re)started that way are the ZINIO magazine delivery/reader program and the Creative Live (external) SoundBlaster.Q6600 2.4Ghz; ASUS Striker Extreme

I don't have a problem with the startup programs, I have those whittled down quite well. Its the running processes that are bogging down the PC. I tried to uninstall the folding at home, but that didn't work. Its still there using up 49% of my system.Comment

This might help Kabu, I used this when I found my little processor was overheating and I could not fold anymore.

I would discourage the use of that folder cause if you ever need to reformat and reinstall the progs, they would be erased.
I made a 20GB partition strictly for setup/executable files. After reformat, I just go to that directory and install away!Comment

Where would you put a file like that jmet? in an external HD?Comment

Ah but jmet I have that folder backed up to my external drive, which of course I forgot to mention, my bad. The folder is merely a way of keeping things in order & keeping track of updates etc. It is not to be used as Program Files, just a storage area for install & setup exe's etc. I backup my C: drive every week to my external, which includes My Installs & Program Files.
