The best one I've found so far for free is Greenfish Icon Editor. I don't use the drawing in Greenfish. I use Photofiltre 64x64 and generate a .jpg then use Greenfish to convert. It is nice in that you can select what icon sizes and color depths you want included.

Then again, I don't attempt to draw pictures. I usually stick a letter or a couple of swipes with a brush on a colored field. But the conversions seem to work in everything afiak.

Greenfish Corporation used to be a Hungarian software company currently producing only freeware. Our software was real freeware, free of malicious code including but not limited to) viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, etc. when downloading or installing casino software and other applications. The Greenfish products were mainly graphics programs and utilities. They could be downloaded from …

          Wise Reg Cleaner

For them that believes in 'em Wise Reg cleaner is the giveaway of the day today:

Every day we present FREE licensed software published by developers from all over the world.

I think I tried it once on Vista and it made me feel kinda' itchy.. anyway, I took it off and didn't go back. Not cleaning but compacting the free NTREGOPT seems to work in both 32 bit and 64 bit Vista. I feel pretty comfortable using that utility. But that's just my preference.

Paragon Total Defrag Special Edition for 32 bit

I just got serial and download for Paragon Total Defrag SE for 32 bit Windows systems. From what I see it's like a TOTAL defrag that can run for hours and hours as it shifts file order around, shrinks MFTs and yadda yadda. Not for the paranoid. I'd recommend having an image backup before running it. But if you like things wicked unfragmented you might want to try it.

edit: I haven't used it yet myself so I can't vouch for it. I just downloaded because it was available. I may try it on XP at some point since that backup set is very small on my system. So I'd say proceed with caution.

Paragon's stuff is usually pretty good. After that freebie cured my problems on the other machine, I upgraded to version 9 of its Hard Disk Manager. I guess this is what freebies are for - to show the power of the products.

I never heard of Paragon until a nasty BHO deleted my C: partition on my old XP PC. Searching around and looking on the various product forums I tried to guess which imaging backup would work best on my PCs. I picked the Drive Backup Personal for image backup. Looks like they have been in business for a long time doing disk specialty software.

In fact I was playing around with styles on my Vista 32 bit system last night and hosed it. Glad I had an image backup that was only a few days old. Hooked up the external and 45 minutes later I was booting back into Vista 32 just like nothing happened! I guess I picked the right one that time.. at least for my PCs.

OTN, I swear I haven't seen anything like Acronis true Image. That baby takes a snapshot of your drive to the tee. I have my dell backed up on another hdd just in case. All I would do is plug it in n that's it. Unbelievable software.

I'm saying I tried Wise and didn't like it. Some people swear by it. It's all what works for you. If you buy a car and it's always aces, it's a great car, even if 97% of the people who get in rear-end collisions burn to death due to the gas tank exploding. Hey, I didn't get burned and it always starts right up for me!!

What was it that didn't convince you? Too vigorous? Not user-friendly? I downloaded the compressed folder, but didn't open it. So I guess it's too late huh? Has to be registered in the 24hr. period correct?

I don't remember specifics as it was several months ago, other than something provoked me to restore my registry directly after using the tool. I uninstalled and that is that for me. If you have a better experience then I'm sure you'll swear by it. It's whatever works for you. No joke.

btw an excellent free registry tool is jv16 Power Tools. You can get an old free verion here:

It requires manual search to gather dead entries, but you can sort them and if you recognize something not on your system anymore, you can delete them. More time consuming but safer I think. As it's old it probably isn't good at dealing with 64 bit OS registry but I don't know that for sure. Seems to work fine on XP and Vista 32 bit.

Also, at least in my experience across anything Windows NT based, it's a good idea to use ERUNT to backup the registry. That way you can restore the registry without using a restore point. More directly at the problem in some cases without putting old versions of drivers and that type of stuff on etc..

                              Yes, that's great site.

Besides, I found that there is a freeware part available for everyday download. In the freeware part, there are many excellent totally free programs.

I download an excellent one named leawo free MP4 converter today to convert some of my videos to MP4 for my iPhone, it's really fatastic program.

Not sure if anybody has mentioned this free search software because it is named "Everything" and that's tough to search without getting a zillion hits. It's similar to locate32 that I was using but it's NTFS specific, uses the NTFS journaling(I'm guessing) to track file system changes, so there's no manual update required, and it doesn't run your HD in Vista. Works in both Vista 32 bit and 64 bit so I'm assuming it works just as well in XP.

Set it to start when Windows starts and forget about it! Plus if you search DonationCoder.com somebody there wrote a FARR plugin to do Everything searches from the FARR command line by using "ev search term". Instructions and dll for the plugin are on donation coder.

(you don't need the plugin to use it. That's only for integration with the FARR launcher utility.)

I've been using it for a day and a half and I haven't seen any excessive HD activity so it must be using the NTFS jounaling info to track the file system. Very cool.
