Did you purchase online? I'm just curious about newegg vs other sources. Generally I'm not a fan of "mal in rebates" as there's usually a "you didn't circle the x on Tuesday, you have to circle the y on Wednesday" and all that crap.

Also if you got online how did you do the shipping?

It looks like a nice unit but I wonder if I'll ever get a PC with ESata since I'm lazy and go for prebuilt.. most of these HPs don't usually have a decent slot open.

I got it local, from my friend who happens to be in the business & who I now build all my PCs with, plus buy all my PC extras from. The reason I build with him, is that I don't have all the knowledge down yet & he does. A man's got to know his limitations. It's definitely faster than USB, but then USB3 is coming. Not a fan of mail in rebates either, got ripped & just don't bother with them. If they can't give me the deal at point of purchase, they just lost a sale.

I forgot about USB3. I should probably wait for that. I usually don't go through PCs fast enough or upgrage drives, to have a lot of internal drives hanging around. I have one 200 GB but it's already in a screw-together enclosure.

LockHunter - similar to Unlocker but has 64 bit also

Those who moved to 64 bit OS and miss using Unlocker may want to try
LockHunter. It has both 32 bit and 64 bit versions. It's a beta but I installed on Vista64 SP1 and so far it seems to do the job fine. It deletes to the Recycle Bin. You can change your mind after deleting a locked file or folder, which is nice.

TreePadGen 1.0 - comment your download folder

Previously I developed TipOff for commenting downloads via Property Page edit dialog, and viewing through Windows Tooltips, along with a button to generate a TreePad file with the comments inserted. TipOff used 32 bit shell extensions. Since 64 bit is coming on bigtime and there seems to be no easy to code equivalent of VC++ for shell extensions in 64 bit, it's time to try a simpler approach.

I came up with a stand-alone .exe. TreePadGen 1.0. It generates a skeleton TreePad file with the selected folder as root, and all top level files as level 1 nodes. A dummy comment of "(put your comment here)" is inserted for each node. Once generated for a folder, as example, your download folder, you just use TreePad or TreePad Lite to fill in comments or annotations.

The stand-alone .exe has no settings. It does not even generate an .ini file or use the Registry. The download link is near the bottom of my download page:

If you have TreePad installed, after the comment skeleton file is created, it should open in TreePad. The skeleton file is created in the selected folder with the same name as the folder with a .hjt extension tacked on.

Topmost Toggle now on SoftPedia

I got a notice of my Hotkeys download page on Gizmo's "Hot Finds"

One thing mentioned was TopmostToggle, a mouse app that toggles the "stay on top" attribute of the active window when you Control Right Click the mouse on it. It was noted that it didn't really need an installer and was a bit bulky with the extra baggage. So I eliminated the installer. Just a zip with the .exe and Readme file now.

The latest version has just been made available for download on Softpedia. Here's the link:

and of course you can always download the latest version from my page. This one is pretty simple so I doubt if I'll update it. I think it's about 6 lines of AutoHotKey code.

It only temporarily changes the topmost attribute of the window. You can toggle it back, but as soon as you close the application the effect is gone. Still I recommend using it with apps that don't have an option for "stay on top" just so the application's tracking of it's window state doesn't get confused(say for example it may save in the registry if it was set to stay on top, screen position, minimized, etc..)

I haven't tried it myself yet. It claims to support XP,Vista and W7 both 32 and 64 bit systems. On Softpedia it's given a rating of 5 out of 5 by 6 users which usually indicates a good find. Just thought I'd pass it along.

skwire spruced up his program a bit. Now called PlayTime, it calculates total play times of media files dropped on, also total time for selected files is shown on status bar. Double click an entry plays the file with the associated player.

skwire has updated PlayTime to v. 1.1.4
Now it has most of the info avail. via MediaInfo. The leftmost column is the base filename of the media file and the column width is automatically set to the longest name. All other columns are selectable. Plus you can drag the mouse to position the columns and the program remembers window and column positions and sizes. Here's a direct link to the latest version:

edit: btw I think now I'll take MediaInfo "sheet" gui out of my Free Commander favorite apps and put PlayTime in that slot. The context menu is more flexible. You can select one or multiple files or folders and it adds all media files in one go.
