I think if you use the regular sata cable it still work but when you transfer it alot slower, I would prefer sata 2 cable
I bought one from bestbuy regular sata cable with the 90 angle, and it was slowdown alot, now I just bend my old cable at 90 degreeLast edited by NightTran; 8 Dec 2006, 01:24 PM.sigpic -
according to these guys
No software, driver or cable upgrades required.
saw the same scam run by the industry with usb2 vs usb1Comment

If your motherboard has SATA2 connections (4 signal leads per channel) then you are going to need the SATA2 cables (2 pair cables)
Now, mabe you can double up on the standard SATA cables (1 pair + 1 pair) and then they will work correctly.
So if you have the latest and greatest motherboard with at least two SATA2 connections and you have two identical hard drives connected in RAID 0 configuration you will need a total of 4 pair cables or 8 single leads.
Do the computer shops have in stock SATA2 cables?

7 leads per channel in one plastic straight connector-----Wow
I going to check my computer store to see if they plan to stock these SATA 2cables.
If the computers of the future are going to have two or more SATA 2 connections and the IDE cables are starting to become a thing of the past, I would think the computer stores are going to stock these 7 leads one connector cables.
I would think the motheboard makers would call them primary SATA 2 and secondary SATA 2. And the upper end motherboards would have the 3rd and 4th SATA 2 connections.

the whole point of this thread is regarding cables there is no difference in
sata 1 and sata 2, just the same as usb 1 or 2, a good sata cable will do sata 2 just like a good usb1 cable will do usb2
also add cat5e will do gigabit ethernet
merchandisers would have you believe otherwise

i changed my primary drive to sata2 no cable change, but it showed as 1.5 g transfer rate, i realized i havnt remove the jumper now it shows 3g transfer rate, on same cable.Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!Comment
