    disk backup img.

What would be the best tool to make an img. of my HDD and registry.

I caught a ****ty trojan last night. At first it just ate alot of mem. Then it stopped most all processes from statring and the last time I restarted, it dissabled .dll's so no apps. would run. Only when I connected to the internet and restarted would it allow me access to the desktop.

I just did a reformat and I decided to finally do this. I think I will use Deep freeze now also. What do you guys think?

I like to run lean and mean and windows can't go a year or two without getting corrupt so I just use vigilence and safe hex.

that company is pretty iffy, couldn't find any verification of their references

    what about limited user login?

Ok I found safe hex but not vigilence. Not sure if you spelled it wrong. Is that the disk imager.

Deep freeze is legit I've used it before It will not allow anything to be installed, changed, removed, etc. intill you go to the prog. and disable it. It was a pain in the ass at first but once you had everything the way you wanted it you were good.

Not sure what you mean about limited user login. Please explain.

in windows xp pro there's an option to create a "limited user" login that can't do any system changes, when it first came out the geeks said always use it to get on the internet

by vigilence I meant common sense, caution, etc.

since trojans are now embedded in software installers kind of hard to protect

If you have a second hdd, either installed to your MOBO or in a USB enclosure, you might try the free version of XXCLONE. It will make a bootable mirror image of your system hdd.
I use a second and a third hdd to use as a backup destination for my system
and audio/video work. If anything ever goes wrong with my main hard drive, I just unplug it from the cable, re-attach the #2 or #3 hdd and re-boot. After I cleanup the removed drive it is re-installed as a backup unit. I monitor and clean my system and backup drives on a regular basis. I also use redundant software to provide a higher level of protection.
