i tried to swap cpu's can you not do that ?? neither board would come on when i did that !!

i am pretty sure the cpu or mobo is cooked if not both !!!!

Can i get a cpu that will just play on this mobo and test it to find it or is it like a one fits all kinda deal ?

As long as the cpu chip has the same amount of pins it should work.

I had repaired my nephew computer several months ago the power supply puked. I opened up the power supply you could see the parts that fried. It also took out the motherboard chip set. The computer would constantly keep booting. The one chip would heat up to well over 350 degrees F. There is a place that I mail order from that has cpu and motherboard combos for around $99.00.

This might help a little ..... some insight !

I had a mobo go bad, I was trying everything (and with Chewy's help)

          Edit: CLICK HERE

New PSU, Replaced chip (THX Intel, the old one was apparently still good).

Asus sent me a refurb mobo (P4P800-E Deluxe) it booted, I installed XP ...... I rebooted on video .... took out AGP card, installed PCI vid card ... got video .... rebooted ON VIDEO .... WOW .... finally sent the refurb back ... got a different model (P4C800-E Deluxe) .... what was really kewl is I did have to reload XP .... it booted into XP ... repeatedly ... looks good so far ....

The only thing I'm unsure of is if I should reload XP and start from scratch .... at least the hardward is working ..... good luck !!!

the real problem here is what are you going to try and save from the old computer, exactly?

what are the specs of the components you have to keep?

especially the ram, vid and hard drives?

              what works with what?

go for a brand name mobo

ecs is not a very good brand

You can take a look at Krex.com and take a look at there motherboard combos. They do have decent prices and if you are out of state no sales taxes. You can also try Tigerdirect.com
