My DVD RW has stopped working

Hi guys,

I powered up my pc yesterday and strangely it told me it detected new hardware etc - my DVDRW.
I thought nothing of it until i tried to burn a DVD and it hung up at 6% (Nero 6)
DVD RW is Lite-On SHW-1635S
I tried reading DVD's CD's etc but nothing works. Nero still recognises the drive and windows doesnt show any problems. I had the most up to date firmware and I tried to re-install it but got the message ""unable to flash firmware - please contact your vendor".

Can it really be screwed ?
Any suggestions ?
Any suggestions to what is a suitable replacement ?

Please try disconnecting your burner from IDE connector, boot PC on, shut it down, reconnect the burner, and then reboot PC to see if it helps reset the system. Good luck
