    Reinstalling Windows 2000 Professional

Is there any way to creat a disk from my computer that I can use to reinstall windows on that same computer? Its been slow for some time and I have many files I no longer need and figured a clean install would be the easiest option to get it back working.

Is there a way I can creat this disk? I bought this computer from a friend and no installation disks came with it.

    Thanks,
    Nick

your friend is responsible for giving you the disk to go with the computer,
until then just clean it up and defrag

damn, unfortunately his grades weren't of the university caliber and he no longer is enrolled at my fine university lol (He was a f*ing moron lol)

I was hoping to turn this dinosaur of a computer around and have only what I need for burning/encoding dvds on here.

So there is no way to do this without that disk he probably doesn't have anymore even if I could get ahold of him?

I use Acronis 9.0 home version and Acronis 10.0 is the latest.
This software program has the ability to put the entire hard disk along with the operating system in what they call Acronis secure zone, ( a partition on the disk) or still even better on blank DVD disks for complete backup.

Key F11 at startup puts the hard drive back to a good point from the secure zone, something like restore points, and if you physically loose the drive you have the DVD disk(s) you created after you replace the hard drive to install everything back to where you want.

The only thing I DON'T like about the software program is the updates from the home website are approximately 86 mb duration and make it almost impossible for a dial-up connection to download the latest updates.

The complete hard drive file that you create on your blank DVD(s) is their version of an ISO image file and not a standard ISO image file.

Acronis provides award-winning backup software & data protection solutions for consumers, businesses & MSPs. Protect your sensitive information!

Thanks! But that sounds just like a backup of the entire computer. I basically want to reload windows and have none of my old programs or settings left on the computer.

Will that program do that or just backup everything already on the HD?

retrieve your key with this link from a msmvp

Sometimes you might need to retrieve the CD Key used to install Windows in order to find out if it's legally purchased, or just for safe keeping. I usually

put it away for safe keeping

any 2000 disk will now work for a clean install but I would only use one with sp4 slipstreamed into the install

Great, thanks for the link! Now to find someone with a Windows 2000 disk lol

Where could I look for a disk to borrow? What do you mean by the sp4 slipstreamed into the install?

w2000 didn't really mature till sp4, it always better to do a clean install of the sp which has been integrated into install cd. Microsoft supports this especially since adding the service packs is so buggy.

I got xp before sp1 and slipstreamed the admin sp1 and made a new cd.
