All right, we've got it fixed! Thanks for all your help.
After installing the beta drivers, I restarted, though the video quality was still kinda bad and the nvidia control panel is basically blank and non-functioning (not a big deal for me since I really don't play many games so as long as it actually works, I'm not too worried about messing with the settings).
When I went to the display properties window and clicked on "Advanced" it gave me a message saying the nvidia control panel couldn't be displayed, and suggested I go to the trouble-shooting tab and turn hardware acceleration to full. For some reason it was set all the way down to "None". I turned it up, and everything worked just fine. So I've got (presumably) working drivers installed and my video is up-to-par. I'm about to go see if games work right. Thanks again!
