I had the same problem last week when my computer didn't recongnize either of my drives, went to device manager and opened my controllers and found that my secondary IDE was corrupted, so I uninstalled it...rebooted and windows found new hareware and re-installed it..worked fine then.

            Just another way maybe?

Did you uninstall Quick Time? Ages ago I did and after the uninstallation I rebooted and when I booted up again my D-Drive and E-Drive were gone. I suspected that and I chanced it the other day when I wanted to convert MOV to AVI and I needed Quick Time. I installed Quick Time again and the coverting software was rubbish and I tried others and they did nothing. I uninstalled the coverting softwares and then Quick Time. I rebooted, booted up and my D-Drive and E-Drive were gone again. I had to use Norton Go Back to fix things. I don't know if my Pinnacle software caused a confliction because I always had a message from that when I booted up every time and it was gone when my two drives were back.

I forgot to check if you got your drivers back before writing this. I hope you got them back because it can be a challenge without System Restore or Norton Go Back and if you can't remember when the problem started because you won't know how far to send your PC back to and it would mean re-installing other software during the time and date of when the problem started to the currant time and date. Always remember to back-up personal files and folders before this because Norton Go Back deletes those, too but System Restore doesn't.

              Darren.

                  Many thanks for the link.

I can never understand why those converting softwares never support Windows Media Player.

No problem. I was always told if you haven't got anything good to say about something, just don't say anything.
