New Laptop & Required Software Setup

    Hi folks,

I just bought a new laptop ... Fujitsu, Lifebook, A series with Intel Centrino Duo chip, 1.66GHZ, and 1GB of RAM.

I want to set this up correctly with only the necessary "Codecs" and softwares for Video Work ... you stuff that is needed to use programs like AutoGK, AutoMKV, AVI2DVD, DVD-RB, ....
AND what versions of AviSynth, Xvid codecs, Freeware version of DivX, ... and ffmpeg, ....

I understand that Too Many Codecs installed on a computer can cause a problem and conflict with each other ... AND that is what I am trying to prevent.

Any input or listing would be appreciated as usual.

    Thanks,
    G!

This is one of the expert's list. Hopefully he will be able to tell you if it is a good list for a laptop.

That list was a little dated (now fixed), try:

        -ffdshow
        -Dscaler5 (Optional)
        -Haali's Media Splitter
        -Real Alternative
        -Quicktime Alternative
        -Media Player Classic
        -VLC

          Hi Anonymez,

          Thanks for the updated list.

Since, I am a little wet behind the ears ... will ffdshow handle all my needs for XviD and sometimes DivX stuff.

I guess if I plan to install AutoGK ... it installs it's own Codecs & stuff (e.g. XviD, Aivsynth ...) ... same with AutoMKV ...

See I will be using this laptop for playing around and experimenting with different Apps and Editing stuff.

          Thanks,
          G!

              Yes, and almost everything else
that's the part I am looking for?

every now and then showtime has no sound on an avi, missing some codec,
seems like xvid or divx related?

I have the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack but don't go getting me in to trouble with anonymez, let's just keep this between ourselves.

I don't know how Showtime works, but assuming it uses it's own filters when it can, that's to be expected. Do you see the ffdshow icon during playback?

I have the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
