Hell I guess so! (laughing my ass off).. there is NO "present firmware" in the package

Damn that NewEgg (still laughing) I should have known the prices were
too good! Lemme tell ya bro... NO manuel, no disk, no box, no nothing... but nicely taped in 4 inches of bubble wrap!

The tag on the writer reads DVD Writer Model SH-S182
down near the computer bar code it says SH-S182m/bebe
and I guess this may be the serial O6006gip101825v F/W sbo3
    next line H/W:A Ver.M January 2007

Remember you told me hardware has about a 2 year life before it needs to upgraded?? Well This was born a month after my daughter!! So I have a running start!
I have 2000 on THIS system... I wanted to play with it until the NEW system is up and running!
    (sighs)
    What should I do.........?

I like the case. I'm gonna drill out the rivets to make the lower HDD cage removable.

I got 3 of them PSUs from frys.com when they were free after rebate But I also used the Amazon $30 credit card bonus to get another standalone DVD recorder a lil while back. And the $30 credit card bonus from buy.com to buy a burner awhile ago too

Did ya see the post for the 400GB Sata II HDD for $99.99 with free shipping at frys again I got 2 of them too

                Yeah! I saw that, Congrats!.........
But that would KILL my budget! I am trying to "keep it simple stupid" KISS as Chewy coined the phrase... I am SOOOOOOOOo close to the end of my hunt and building a computer for under $300 it's killing me.

If you know or not.. you have been a BIG help!
Chewy tells me that the on board sound cards are good now-a-days...
so I might even let that expense slide... (but I am so a virgo, I hate half-ass`in) But when someone with more experience tells me to take note... I need to do so...
I may not reach the under $300 mark but I'll be damn close!
It's friends like you and "the gang".. Soup..Ratboy..Chewy..Blu and a few others that keep me on my toes... Most of the time they can really make my day... I like having a cyber circle of friends.. rocks!

                  Jake,

Remember the old saying " Time heals all "
I seem to have found a number of flaws with it.
Like as computers get older, we want newer.
And if the saying is true, why am I starting to fall apart, and sometimes not recall why?

I am not going to say I am over the Hill, but some days the horse I am riding looks like this.

Anyway $300-$400 to complete the project you started, is making me start to think about building a new one myself.

Not sure if you have thought about a network card yet.

                  Really looking good so far.

                    RayBoy.............
My good and bestest cyber friend...
All BS aside, I DO NOT NEED a NEWORK CARD for my home or
other needs. My wife if she decides to go on line when I am
there I'll leave it to her... Like I told you I live in "BFE" so
I can take a few and let her have a run at her things....
If I decide a network card is something I need.. I'll get a free
one from the guy at work, they cost pennies on the dime...
I do miss u my friend............. If you decide U want a network card hell
I will mail you one, it's yours for the asking!(yeah FREE, Bro)
Peace and Love to you and your family!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ Jake; Many mainboards come today with Ethernet built-in, right on the board, & it works just fine, if you opt for broadband in the future.

Good luck with your build; I have been watching your posts, & have been purchasing a few items along the way, from the "build" thread that I had previously started.

I will post a total when I am all done, I believe it will be in the $375 - $400 range - that is, if they don't rip me off for the rebates!!!

@Jake I have CD and DVD lightscribe that I could send one of each. And if you need some more case fans let me know the size and the I can price them for you. A 400 watt supply is approximately 22.89 my cost.

CHEWY - Here's a question for you; which direction do you prefer CPU fan rotation? Blowing onto the heatsink, or away from it?

When I google the question, the answers are all over the place! (very divided)

A good case will channel some fresh air right to the cpu fan, that fan blows it over the heat sink and a high rear exhaust fan and strong power supply fan(s) take it out of the case

sticking the tower back in a desk just recirculates that hot air

Well I already purchased the Ultra 500 watt power supply... But I was going to ask you guys about fans. "How many do I need" was going to a question.
and also aren't you suppose to have ONE main big fan?. I bought the little 80mm case fans because the last one I built kept heating up and computer would beep the warning.. I finally too the sides off and it stopped.
                                I am kinda stumped.
                                Thank you for your kindness.

PS. At this point I really need to start getting real about a Mo-Bo.. but it is the hardest decision and it's making me nuts. I KNOW I NEED 2 ide headers on it... but I can't decide about a CPU also (to amd x 2 or not) NOT will save me $ but x2 will keep me multi-tasking which I enjoy.
And I am with chewy on a pci-e for a video card.. but which ones?! Most of the lower dollar ones (and trust me there isn't many lower price ones) have poor consumer ratings.
These bigger money decisions making me nutz-o.
