The other thing that got me with that LiteOn was the fact that the light is in the middle of the drive... that looks annoying - mine are either by the eject button or by the "volume control" (what does that even do?)

Bro one thing I can tell you.... keep looking in the sunday paper or www.bestbuy.com (i did delivery papers part time about 4 years back)and WAIT for the exact thing that will make you happy with that gift certificate... I promise rushing , you'll regret it the NEXT week!

If you will look in General Computing... find a thread "jake wants to build a new computer" you'll see I bought 2 for those recently.
about a week later NewEgg send me an email about some BS and said those Samsung's have been elected like consumer choice award or some crap on new egg recently..
Dang I was a thinking...
They should work great... and get a few at that price so you don't have one doing all the workload and burn it up so fast.

I've bought 4 burners from Newegg lately and they send that email on all of them for nominated product, etc. Means very little.

I sent the Samsung back, very slow. I got a different Pioneer than the one I originally ordered and also got a LiteOn. Very pleased with the LiteOn LH-20A1P and the Pioneer DVR-111D.

liteon/samsung/lg's are all decent buys

course when you start worrying about where a light is then you might as well
start moving furniture around or planning on being an interior decorator

I might order the Lite-On one that has free shipping.

The only cons is that it "will only burn at 16x while it says 18x", those guys are idiots because you shouldn't burn that fast

Other people say it can't write to cheap media, but I won't have that problem either

And I have the retail version of Nero, I don't need "essentials"

Another complaint of that LiteOn was that it was noisy... is it really that bad? Some people said it stopped working after a few months, but so did my Samsung so I know nothing better.
