USB2 Connection to Video Camera Problem

Hi All,

I have just bought my wife a "Sanyo VPC-CG6 Digital Movie Camera" which stores the videos and stills on a 4GB SDHC card, the videos in MPEG4 format. According to the Manual all I have to do is connect the camera and PC using the USB2 lead, check "CARD READER" when it appears on the menu and all should be ready to go - - It doesn't ! !

The PC has recognised the camera by name and it shows up as drive F: in "My Computer" and in Device Manager as a hard drive. However I have attempted to capture a test video using Windows Movie Maker 2, Magix Movie Edit Pro 2004 and Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5 SE (the latter from the Sanyo Software Pack which came with the camera) but with no success. Each time I try I get a message that there is no capture device present. I have also tried to copy from the camera to the PC (My Videos) ie. one "hard drive" to another but that didn't work either. I have probably lost the plot by now and I have just about run out of ideas and would be grateful for any help anyone can give. My own Sony Camcorder uses firewire as normal and I have never had any problem with that but this has me beat. My Operating System is Windows XP (SP2) Home by the way.

Can you explore the F: drive (the camera) by double-click it to see any video file there? Does your camera come with any software to transfer the file via USB connection? If you can explore the F: drive and locate the video file in it, you can right-click and send to a different folder in your hard drive. You can also buy and use an USB2 card reader to read the SDHC card

These programs mostly used to recognize and capture movie via firewire interface, not USB though

Thanks for the suggestions Guys.

I copied the files from the Camcorder (F: drive) into "My Videos" and then into the Ulead DVD Movie Factory programme and it accepted the raw files and I was able to work with them. However, Windows Movie Maker 2 and Movie Edit Pro will not accept the MPEG4 files so I am now looking for an editing programme which will take MPEG4. I will probably start with lokking at ULead as a safe bet. Thanks again for your help and I'll be back if I need any more info.
