    Do you have Beryl running? (do the windows "wobble" when you move them?)
    D'OH!

    I forgot that I had to run it from the terminal window! Now, is that how I always start it? I was thinking that I would start it from an entry under applications?

      Beryl will run automatically at startup if you follow the instructions in post #129.

        BTW, can you also rotate the cube vertically for additional sides?

          Sure, but I don't see how anyone could possibly need more than four.

            I was just joking actually, but sure, I can see how it would be possible, since this is such a versatile system.

            BTW, if soup, BR7 & the others are still following this thread, they must be ROTFL at the ridiculously elementary questions I keep asking you! But hopefully, we are laying good groundwork for those to follow.

                I still think eventually you will have to either drop that 10-foot pole you use to keep Vista at bay or embrace the penguin.

                    Some distributions are, some aren't. The GUI covers almost everything in major distributions like openSuse and Ubuntu, most folks are a little intimidated when they browse the guides, forums and wikis and see lots of cli. The fact is that the cli is just easier, quicker, similar between distros and harder to screw up.

                    You cannot know whether it is user friendly or not without actually using it first

                        I figure if I can get over these few bumps, that it will be relatively smooth sailing, & it is fun leaning this new stuff. I was getting kind of board with windows.

                        Also, if it holds true all that they say about linux being virtually hackproof/virusproof/malwareproof, & possibly best of all non-intrusive into my personal life, I say jump on board with the

                          Market researcher IDC expects to announce within weeks that Linux PC market share in 2003 hit 3.2%, overtaking Apple Computer Inc.'s MacOS. And the researcher expects Linux to capture 6% of this market by 2007. That's still tiny compared with Microsoft's 94% share.

                            When hunting penguins, the Leopard Seal patrols the waters near the edges of the ice, almost completely submerged, waiting for the birds to enter the ocean. It kills the swimming bird by grabbing the feet, then shaking the penguin vigorously and beating its body against the surface of the water repeatedly until the penguin is dead. Previous reports that Leopard seals skin their prey have been proved incorrect. Lacking the teeth necessary to slice their prey into manageable pieces, they flail their prey from side to side in order to tear and rip it into smaller pieces

                            Leopard Seals are bold, powerful and curious. In the water, there is a fine line between curiosity and predatory behaviour, and they may 'play' with penguins that they do not intend to eat.

                              1% of enterprise customers run Linux desktops, Gartner says. By 2008 the number will reach 3.2%.
                              but at the enterprise/server level

                              Yankee found that 4% of Unix customers and 11% of Windows businesses plan to replace all of their servers with Linux. And less than 5% of organizations will replace their Windows desktops with Linux.
                              A recent Forrester survey of 140 large North American companies indicated that 53% run mission-critical applications under Linux and 52% choose Linux for new applications. As noted in a Computer Associates white paper, 72% of executives responsible for IT budgets in corporations with revenues of $1 bln or more plan to boost Linux investments in the coming year

                                anony - I installed an application from the Synaptic P. Manager;
                                kworldclock, under games. It allows you to view different parts of the world/day/night times, etc.

                                I installed all items that it said must accompany it, but it is nowhere to be found after install. I even searched add/remove applications, but nothing shows up in a search.

                                I typed kworldclock into terminal, & the application opened, & I also got this in the terminal;
